Baankey Ki Crazy Baraat: Film Review – A Light-Hearted Tale With Good Comic Timing

Baankey Ki Crazy Baraat is a story set in two-tier Indian cities. The movie is a situational comedy that tries a tad too hard. It revolves around Baankey played by Rajpal Yadav and his crazy quest to get married.

Baankey is the only son of a well-settled family. He is an over-pampered man who never grew out of his childhood. He is 35 years old and is unmarried due to a dosh in his kundali. Now, Baankey really wants to get married and has done almost everything possible including Kam Dev ki Puja 101 times. Sadly, it hasn’t quite worked. What follows is a crazy plan to get Baankey married.

Love for our children can make us do crazy things and here we see Baankey’s family doing just that. Enter Virat, a carefree man whose father owes money to Baankey’s family. Virat played by Satyajeet Dubey pretends he is Baankey before the to-be bride, Anjali and her family. The confusion and the ordeal in the marriage ceremony makes for some hilarious moments.

Aijaz Khan‘s Baankey Ki Crazy Baraat has its share of good performances. Talented actors like Rakesh Bedi, Rajpal Yadav, Sanjay Mishra and Vijay Raaz do not disappoint. You’re bound to enjoy watching them. The lead pair, Tia Bajpai and Satyajeet Dubey look raw and have a long way to go.

The second half of the movie scores over the first, as the film slowly gets its flow. Sadly, it isn’t enough. The film feels like a bunch of talented actors have been left to deal with a loose script with over-zealous cliches sprinkled over. The camera work leaves one not much impressed too.

In all fairness, Baankey Ki Crazy Baraat does try to maintain the masala factor by including three songs – an item number, a romantic one and a sufi one that are rather good. But is that enough? We aren’t quite sure.

Why You Should Watch This Movie:
If you’re a fan of Rajpal Yadav and his comic timing, do give Baankey Ki Crazy Baraat a shot. You might just leave the movie hall with a smile.
