Nawazuddin's streak this year in Bollywood has been pretty hot with four releases so far – Haramkhor, Raees, Mom and Munna Michael. In his fifth release, he is playing a trash-talking violent hitman, who aces his job. The film will remind you of the Nawazuddin you saw in Gangs of Wasseypur but with a different shade.
Babumoshai Bandookbaaz is about Babu (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) a contract killer who has a penchant for prostitutes and one-liners. His position is at stake because a rival, Banke, has entered the scene. Banke calls himself a fan of Babu but the latter knows that he can be a threat. Both of them get the same contract of killing three people and decide to play a game – whoever kills more first gets all the money and stays in the business. But that's not it! There's another conspiracy brewing against Babu and he needs to make sure he is neither the target not the pawn for it.
The writer of the movie stated in an interview that the film reflects the harsh truth of society and the character of Babu becomes a serial killer because he faced poverty all his childhood. He also emphasized that the movie is not titillating. Three songs have been released so far – Aye Saiyan, Barfani, and Ghungta; our music review will be up soon.
The shoot for the movie started in June 2016 and was wrapped up by January 2017. It was initially stopped by Ex. CBFC chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani as he proposed 48 cuts, but FCAT cleared the movie with 8 minor voluntary cuts. The film is slated for release on the 25th of August.
