It does not matter if you are famous, successful, rich, generous or beautiful. If you’re a celebrity, you must be open to criticism almost all the time. Being popular makes it harder indeed. Kim Kardashian‘s latest nude post received backlash from both celebrities and the general public. Some argued that Kim’s posts result in insecurities among young women, who feel they have not much to offer other than their bodies. Many others pointed out that a woman in her thirties, mother to two children, should not be posing naked on social media. But the selfie queen responded to the criticism and even went on to write an essay about empowerment.
Kim K is not the only female celebrity who has faced the repercussions of her social media posts. From fat-shaming to bimbo-calling, celebs in India too have faced a brutal and often sexist backlash as compared to their male counterparts. Here’s a look at some of the worst ones:
When Sonam became a soft target
Sonam Kapoor‘s Twitter post during the Paryushan meat ban made her an easy target for Twitter trolls. In her post, the actress hit out against ‘intolerant, misogynistic, close-minded people’, causing a spur of attacks on the post, claiming that misogyny had nothing to do with the ban. The actress clarified later that her post was not about the ban, but a general statement. But the damage was already done! From calling her a bimbo to addressing her English, Twitter users had a field day with this one.
Will Twitter leave Sonakshi Sinha alone? Fat chance!
The Lootera actress has faced a lot of flak on social media. From fat-shaming, to being called ‘ugly’, the actress has dealt with many derogatory remarks. However, she isn’t the one to sit back tight-lipped. The actress has responded on several occasions, eventually shutting down her haters.
Anushka Sharma stumped!
The NH10 actress did not even have to post a tweet to be at the receiving end of criticism. Her then-boyfriend Virat Kohli‘s lackluster performance in a cricket game led to Twitter hitting out at Anushka. Now, we know India is a cricket-loving country but the backlash even bowled us over.
Shruti Seth was probably asking for trouble when she retorted on PM Modi’s #SelfieWithDaughter campaign. Did she expect the BJP trolls to spare her? Not likely! She was savagely attacked on social media for her comments, as people insulted her both professionally and personally. The actress probably realized that social media is not the best place for expression and deleted her tweet, later penning an open letter to Modi.
Bhatt of all jokes!
Alia Bhatt‘s famous goof-up on Koffee With Karan was not spared by social media trolls. Instantly, the actress was the subject of several mean jokes and insulting memes. She took it all in stride though and even went ahead to participate in an online video mocking herself. Now that’s a sport.
