Directed by Nikhil Mahajan (Pune 52), Baji is about the common man’s hero. He has sworn to protect them from injustice and exploitation. Played by Shreyas Talpade, Baji uses his sword, bow-arrow and his white stallion to fight crime. Jitendra Joshi plays the role of Baji’s nemesis. The filming has taken place in the evergreen Konkan region of Maharasthra. We see Amruta Khanvilkar, famous for her role in Shaala, as the leading actress of the movie.
Unlike other superhero movies, the film doesn’t include any special effects. According to the creators, instead of investing in VFX, they have chosen to compensate with emotions and raw fighting scenes. There are many Marathi movies that have action-adventure as their prime genre, but in Baji, the creators have tried to raise the bar set by those movies. The first look hints that Baji has more in common with superheroes like Zorro and Robin Hood than we would have guessed.
The trailer starts with a raw poem that tries to take us into a fantasy world. A fantasy world where a broken, common man turns into a superhero: Baji. Albeit briefly, the teaser does take us into that fantasy world. The trailer seems promising and refreshing. There’s also a lot of down-home local color that people are going to like. Plus, there is a romantic arc that viewers will relate to it. Baji is a hero straight out of Marathi folklore and the first of its kind, a reason which is enough for you to check out its trailer:
