Beer pong. One of the most common party games around! It's fun, it's easy and hey, it involves beer. For those who don't know what it is, it's basically a drinking game in which players throw a ping pong ball across a table with the intent of landing the ball in a cup of beer on the other end. The game typically consists of opposing teams of two players per side with 6 or 10 cups set up in a triangle formation on each side. Each team then takes turns attempting to shoot ping pong balls into the opponent's cups. If a ball lands in a cup, the beer in that cup is consumed by the other team and the cup is removed from the table. The first team to eliminate all of the opponent's cups is the winner.
Capiche? Now let me tell you about my participation in the Beer Pong League, organized by Blob Media at Anarchy, a swanky new club in Andheri, Mumbai. Held on a lazy Sunday, it was a great way to have a fun-filled evening.
Initially, the organizers were looking at teams of two, but they realized with less than 20 people, individual games might be a better idea. Each game, comprising 6 cups on each side, had a time limit of 10 minutes, in case people never ended up downing each cup. We spent nearly an hour just practicing and getting warmed up. As for someone who has never played it before, it sure is fun.
First round in, it was a decent start, but my opponent just didn't manage to get a cup, so it reached a point where i was hoping they would score just so i could have some beer. As they finally hit it, i celebrated more than them, as I swung a fist in the air and chugged that beer. Winners of each round had the choice to drink their remaining beer, or give it to the opponent. Obviously, all winners celebrated by themselves.
On to the next few rounds before it was time for the semi-finals. A very close game, my opponent and I had equal cups at nearly every point in the game. Down to the last cup, he managed to knock mine down and it counted. The final was a nail biter. They reached the final cup in no time, but from there on it was just bad luck for both – the ball bounced off the rim of the cup countless times. Finally, luck favoured one of them – he was relieved and thrilled to take home the hamper. The runner-up and some others got t-shirts as a giveaway.
While it was a chilled flow of events, maybe they could have some more beer for participants. For those who got eliminated in the first round, had nothing to look forward to, since it was held in a knockout format. A fun evening all in all. The vibe at the club was picking up, so some of us decided to hang around.
