Beimaan, Shaitaan, Besharam Babli

6 years of charm, good looks and great acting is what would truly define the superstar that Ranbir Kapoor is on his way of becoming. Not that he hasn’t already been identified as a superstar. However, hailing from the first family of Bollywood, this is something that totally goes unspoken. He, perhaps, is also the only actor who has always shown immense conviction in all the roles he has portrayed, in his stint so far in B-Town. Having debuted with a slightly unconventional role of being a romantic hero in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya, he managed to get himself noticed in the film for his acting prowess and his screen presence and not simply for the fact that he was, say, the heir apparent of representing the Kapoor family. This, despite, the towel that dropped and let’s say had everyone talking about ‘it’.

I can barely remember any film of his that I have despised him in. Even after having given it a deep thought. He romanced 3 beautiful women in his second film, Bachna Ae Haseeno, helped a lot of sales and marketing-driven students learn the true art of salesmanship in Rocket Singh, made people laugh and cry by being Sid in Wake Up Sid, carried a whole film on his shoulders while making everyone believe that Ranbir Kapoor could also be the intense Janardhan Jakhar/Jordan for the 180 minutes you watched him on screen in Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar, and made everyone fall in love with him once again in his role as Bunny, who eventually found himself while travelling the world, in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.
Well, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani was a runaway hit at the Box Office. Questions were asked about the actor’s relationship with his ex-girlfriend and co-star, Deepika Padukone. But that didn’t deter the impression he has made on his fans worldwide. And why should it, I ask? We constantly look for some gossip, some buzz about an actor or an actress, if you ask yourself, does someone’s personal life really help us have a good night’s sleep? I think not.
With Besharam releasing this Wednesday, promises are big. And the film may just break all BO records. This also happens to be the only Bollywood film so far, that will hit 3600 screens all over India, i.e. 100 screens more than Chennai Express which released this year on the Eid weekend.
Why I am looking forward to watching Besharam, probably FDFS, is beyond explanation. Perhaps it is Ranbir Kapoor, perhaps it is Rishi Kapoor, maybe Neetu Kapoor or the veteran couple onscreen together, or maybe the Dabangg-ized version of an action-comedy directed by Abhinav Kashyap.
Whatever maybe the reason, this film is worth a watch for Ranbir Kapoor’s transformation as the Beimaan, Shaitaan, Besharam Babli.
Ticket sales for the film have begun now. Reserve your seats before they’re sold out!
