There is no dearth of talent in Bollywood. The Khans have proved their acting skills over and over again, and now, the younger lot – Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, and Varun Dhawan – are making us sit up and take notice. This year, though, it was Akshay Kumar who managed to play three different characters, and he impressed us with all of them. If he tickled your funny bone in Housefull 3, Kumar also gave restrained performances in Airlift and Rustom. Besides Akki, here are the other actors who wowed us with their performances in 2016.
Shah Rukh Khan – Fan
Playing the roles of a superstar and his fan, SRK showed that he can still act. We would love to see him in films like Fan, which demand more from him rather than comedies like Chennai Express and Dilwale.
Alia Bhatt – Udta Punjab
Bhatt was almost unrecognizable as a Bihari immigrant in the critically-acclaimed film, Udta Punjab. She played the part to perfection and with her performance, Alia showed us why she is way ahead of her contemporaries.
Aamir Khan – Dangal
Trust Aamir Khan to gain and lose 20 kilos within a few months, only to get the feel of the character he’s playing. In Dangal, Khan made us believe in Mahavir Phogat’s struggle, and it's no surprise that the movie is already breaking box-office records.
Swara Bhaskar – Nil Battey Sannata
In spite of brilliant performances in the Tanu Weds Manu series and Raanjhanaa, Swara Bhaskar never really got her due in Bollywood. But her portrayal of a struggling mother in Nil Battey Sannata changed it all. Bhaskar has already won an award for her exceptional act.
Sushant Singh Rajput – M. S. Dhoni: The Untold Story
After making a successful transition from television shows to films, Sushant Singh Rajput got a fantastic opportunity to play Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the cricketer's biopic. SSR made the most of it and is now considered as a competition to Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh.
