Bollywood Bids Adieu to Aadesh Shrivastava

On September 5th, 2015, Bollywood lost one of its most talented music composers when Aadesh Shrivastava succumbed to cancer. Aadesh had turned 49 just a day before he passed away. Industry stalwarts Amitabh BachchanAnil Kapoor and singer Sonu Nigam attended the last rites. Aadesh is survived by his wife, former actress Vijayata Pandit and two sons. Celebs like Farhan Akhtar, Lata MangeshkarBipasha BasuShilpa Shetty KundraRiteish Deshmukh along with many others expressed their grief and gave condolences through twitter. One of the most touching tribute was by Mr. Bachchan who wrote on his blog, “Aadesh Shrivastava passed away .. I lived my music with him .. I live without him now .. and perhaps my music too ..”

The talented composer may be gone, but his musical legacy survives. Let’s look at five of his songs that will be hard to forget.

Haathon Mein Aa Gaya Jo Kal
This one picturized on a young Saif Ali Khan and Shilpa Shetty Kundra from the movie Aao Pyar Karen catapulted Aadesh to fame. If you grew up in the 90s, it is very unlikely you’d have missed humming this one.

Kya Ada Kya Jalwe Tere Paro
Remember Sunil Shetty in the peppy number from Shastra? If you’re a 90s kid, this one you’ll surely go, “What a question!” at this.

Kiska Chehra
This enticing ghazal sung by the great Jagjit Singh is a soft, romantic one from the film Tarkeeb picturized on Tabu and Milind Soman. The tune lures you and makes you want to hum along.

Say Shava Shava
This song from Kabhi Kushi Kabhie Gham was a massive hit and is still quite the crowd’s favorite at parties and weddings.

Mora Piya
Mora Piya from Rajneeti was on everyone’s lips when it came out. English words blended with traditional raagas and Hindi words, the tune is as soulful as the lyrics.

These songs and so many more are a testimony to Aadesh Shrivastava‘s versatility as a composer. His music will live on in these timeless tunes.
