There is a certain kind of dichotomy when we talk about the girl child in India. The main reason for this is the misconception among many that only sons can bring glory and fame to their families. Obviously, it is not true as time and again we have seen powerful women who not just set examples, but also made their families proud.
Bollywood is one such medium that shows us every aspect of our society. Most of the films dealing with girl child have explored the critical and delicate relationship of daughters with their parents. Today, on the occasion of National Girl Child Day, let’s take a look at Bollywood films where the girl child made her parents proud while also breaking societal conventions thus emerging as the ultimate winner.
1. Geeta Phogat
We need not say anything about Dangal. If you haven’t seen the final moments of a daughter (Fatima Sana Shaikh) fulfilling her father’s (Aamir Khan) dream, we would suggest you do that right now.
Piku focuses on the relationship between an unconventional father-daughter pair. Piku, played by Deepika Padukone, is a strong independent woman who beautifully juggles between her various responsibilities, one being taking care of her father (Amitabh Bachchan). Indeed, a daughter who can make every parent proud.
3. The Chak De! India girls
When you become an international champion after beating all the odds and rising above all the struggles, you ought to make not just your parents but every parent and child proud. Chak De! India was all about girl power. And how can we forget their wonderful coach played by none other than the badshah –Shah Rukh Khan.
Without a doubt, losing a child is the worst nightmare of any parent but Neerja Bhanot’s selfless act would have definitely made her parents hold their heads high. Kudos to Sonam Kapoor for giving a marvelous performance in and as Neerja.
5. Anjali Sharma
Anjali is the cutest and most adorable daughter any parent can have. In Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Karan Johar’s directorial debut, she not only fulfills her mother’s last wish but also gives a new life to her father.
