Another blockbuster month has come to an end and what a time for Bollywood it has been! From some of the most highly-anticipated films to smaller projects, they’ve impressed one and all. Of course, it is hard to keep up with so many films releasing in a span of one month. If you still haven’t caught up with them, fret not. We’ve got it covered. Which are the must-watch movies? Which are the ones that fall under the one-time watch category? Let’s find out!
Oh yes, he is. Akshay Kumar returned with yet another masala entertainer that received tremendous response from his fans as well as the film fraternity. Gabbar Is Back is the story of a common man’s fight for justice and a corruption-free society. Fans of Akki were treated to an action-packed film that kept them hooked from start to finish. This one is a must-watch if you love Akshay and his Khiladi avatar!
With every film that she signs, Deepika Padukone keeps getting better and better. The best part about Piku is that there’s nothing extraordinary about the script or its characters. It is the pure simplicity that makes Piku a definite watch. Amitabh Bachchan is adorable and Irrfan Khan is effortless as usual. This life journey deserves to be experienced.
A lot of movie buffs wouldn’t agree with this, but Bombay Velvet deserves a watch simply for its portrayal of the city in its old days. The film was surrounded with immense hype way before its release, and rightly so. Ranbir Kapoor has done a commendable job as the protagonist, while Anushka sizzles as the jazz singer. Director Karan Johar, who makes his Bollywood debut, deserves a special mention. Bombay Velvet wouldn’t be on your all-time favorite list, but it is surely a one-time watch.
Here comes our pick of the month! After winning our hearts in Queen, Kangana Ranaut comes back with another superb performance, this time in the sequel to Tanu Weds Manu. And as if one wasn’t enough, Kangana’s double role makes us fall in love with her for the nth time. Tanu Weds Manu Returns is a sequel in the real sense, because it actually begins from where the story was left in the 1st part. We bet you’ll love Kangana and her brilliant acting. Do not miss at any cost!
This isn’t your usual Bollywood flick. Chaar Cutting is a compilation of four beautiful short stories that revolve around the various human emotions. Manila Running, Skin Deep, Bawdi and Blouse are the four stories, with each film sending out a unique message. To step away from the monotony of the Bollywood conundrum, go watch Chaar Cutting!
Another Sunny Leone movie, another adult comedy. Starring Ram Kapoor and Sunny in lead roles, Kuch Kuch Locha Hai is a raunchy film filled with sexual innuendos that goes haywire at many levels. Besides being over-the-top, this film is full of typical Bollywood stereotypes. We’ll wait for the day a Sunny Leone film makes headlines for her acting!
An Indo-Canadian film based on illegal immigration, Surkhaab’s only weak point was its tiring second half. The first half is interesting as far as acting is concerned, but it all comes crashing down towards the end. Call it a screenplay glitch or so, Surkhaab could’ve been a much better film with some improvisation.
How many times have we seen Jackky Bhagnani dish out flops one after the other? Welcome 2 Karachi is just another addition to the list. Surprisingly, the film garnered mediocre response despite the presence of seasoned actor, Arshad Warsi. Satire is a genre that isn’t easy to explore and this film has made an average attempt. It may be a one-time watch, but can’t be termed as a hit for sure.
Ishqedarriyaan has all the ingredients of a perfect film – love, romance, emotions et al. Except that the film rests on a fragile script, sub-par acting and too much cliche. Mahaakshay Chakraborty and Evelyn Sharma star in this romantic saga, but there’s hardly anything to take home apart from the music, maybe.
5. I Love Desi
Another love story with a predictable story line, I Love Desi features debutantes Vedant Bali, Priyanka Shah as the lead actors. There is nothing spectacular about this film, though it does have its moments occasionally.
Well, that was it for the month of May! How many films did you watch this month? Share your comments below.
