With Dhoom-day fast-approaching upon us, a larger chunk of the Bollywood-loving audience is excited and that includes the media. And why not? The star-studded film promises a lot of power-packed action and surprises for the audience. The Dhoom series has always been a crowd-pleaser, and this time too there is a lot in store for the masses. From super-bikes to kickass action, this film is destined to be one of the biggest hits of 2013, or probably THE biggest hit of all time!
Along with us the superstars of Dhoom: 3
also looked visibly excited at the press conference of the film that took place on Tuesday, December 10, at Yashraj Studios. So here’s what they had to say:
What does Dhoom mean for all the stars?
Abhishek Bachchan who has been a part of the Dhoom trilogy since 2004, plays the role of Jai Dixit – the determined, preserved and analytical cop from Mumbai. In his words,”Dhoom ke vajah se, zindagi mein Dhoom machi hui hai
“. In Dhoom: 3
, the audience will see him chasing none other than Mr. Perfectionist, Aamir Khan, who plays Sahir – The Clown Thief. Aamir Khan, who is equally excited for the movie said that, “Dhoom hain to maaza hai, Dhoom nahi hai toh mazaa nahi hai
.” King of one-liners, Uday Chopra, who also has been a part of the Dhoom franchise since 2004, very honestly admitted that, “Dhoom hai toh main actor hoon, Dhoom nahin hai toh main nahin hoon
“, which amused everyone present at the event. The sexy Katrina Kaif said that, “For me Dhoom is all about dance, I have done a lot of hardwork for Malang.”
Aamir on the marketing strategy of Dhoom 3
When questioned about the marketing strategy that he has opted for the promotion of Dhoom: 3
, Aamir spoke extensively and threw light on the several aspects of marketing and promotion. Aamir said that with Dhoom: 3
, they swear by the strategy that “less is more”. He spoke about how they’ve released all the music videos of the film, however, they reveal only 30 seconds of the original clip. They want to save the best for the last it seems. The actor also reasserted that the audience is intelligent and need not be spoon-fed. When questioned about his out and aggressive style of marketing. He said that, “Marketing is a part of film-making… it’s an invitation to the audience that welcomes them to watch the film.”
However he also added that, “3 Idiots is such a big success, and they (media) attribute it to me. I think they’re really inaccurate… Raju Hirani, Abhijat (Joshi) have contributed to its success as much as I have contributed as an actor, and so have Sharman, Madhavan and Boman.” He went on to add that big stars may manage to collect a good revenue for a film in the first few days, but finally, no film can be successful without the film itself being good. Point made and accepted Mr. Khan!
He also spoke about Salman Khan and how he went about promoting Dhoom: 3 on Bigg Boss 7. Aamir assured that he would leave no stone unturned to promote Salman’s Jai Ho. But also added that, going by the magnitude of Salman’s fans, he may not even need to promote Jai Ho.
Abhishek on Aamir playing the role of a villain
People have been raving about Aamir Khan’s negative role in the film. He will be seen doing a lot of stunts on bikes and off-bikes throughout the film. After John Abraham, Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai, Aamir is all set to join the league of super-bad villains of the Dhoom trilogy. However, Abhishek who plays the cop in the film claimed to not have any particular villain as his favorite. “I never believed John’s character, Hrithik’s character or now Aamir’s character to be the villains. They all had their reasons behind their acts. They are more like co-stars and I enjoyed working with them,” said the suave Abhishek Bachchan.
Aamir to tap-dance
Aamir also spoke about putting his dancing skills on display for Dhoom: 3
, but at the same time humbly confessed that he isn’t as good a dancer as Shahid Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Prabhudeva or Govinda. He said that he trained for forty-five days to learn the dance form, and also revealed that his dance performance will be an aggressive, modern and grungy form of tap-dance that emphasizes on speed and power, as opposed to the classic tap-dance moves by Fred Astaire or Gene Kelley. But from Aamir’s conviction and his love for perfection, we can only imagine him giving his best as he does the tap.
What the stars wore
Katrina’s various costumes in the title track of the film became the talk of the town. Similarly, we believe that the stars of Dhoom: 3 will be seen in the best attires throughout the film. Even at the press conference, all four looked in great shape and surely kept the fashion police miles away! Abhishek Bachchan looked dapper in a black velvet blazer and black trousers. Aamir Khan looked cool wearing a plain black tee and blue jeans, topped with his trademark Bowler’s hat. Yummylicious diva, Katrina Kaif was in her glamorous-best avatar, with a nude sheer top with gold sequins, black leather pants and matching nude stilettos. Uday Chopra looked like the boy-next-door in a denim shirt and khaki-colored chinos.
Uday on Aditya Chopra
Uday Chopra looked calm and composed facing the shutterbugs. When questioned about why Aditya Chopra never makes himself available to the media, Uday replied with utmost honesty. He said that, “Adi doesn’t like being recognized, I don’t think he likes people seeing his face too much because his greatest enjoyment is to go watch a film in the theatre as a regular member of the audience.” To which, Abhishek jokingly added, “Aditya Chopra is a rumor, he doesn’t exist… nobody knows how he looks like… it’s Uday’s alter-ego, he’s actually Aditya Chopra.”
After much discussion, the press conference ended on a light note. Going by the hype that has been created around this film, we can only expect it to be bigger and better than the previous films. 20:12:13 is Dhoom Day. So keep your dates locked.
