CCL 5: Where cricket meets glamour!

8 teams. 15 matches. 1 winner!

India’s biggest non-professional cricket league is back with it’s brand new fifth season. The Celebrity Cricket League begins on January 10, as the Mumbai Heroes take on Veer Marathi in the inaugural match at Mumbai.

CCL has gained nationwide popularity since its inception in 2011, thanks to the format of the tournament. It is a one-of-a-kind experience for fans, where they get a chance to watch their favorite stars live. The tournament spans a mere 8 days, with matches held over the weekends.

We take a look at some of the teams that are most likely to create a buzz this year:

The Champions: Karnataka Bulldozers

Both Chennai Rhinos and Karnataka Bulldozers have won the championship twice so far. While the Rhinos slipped after the first two seasons, the latter looks like the team to beat on current form. The defending champs will be aiming for a hat-trick this time.

The Dark Horses: Bhojpuri Dabanggs

Led by actor Manoj Tiwari, the Bhojpuri Dabanggs finished third on the points table last year. Despite being a late addition to the tournament in 2013, they have already impressed in their first two seasons. Wouldn’t be surprising if they climb atop and snatch the title!

The Showstoppers: Mumbai Heroes

If there was an award for the most star-studded team of CCL, the Mumbai Heroes would be clear winners across seasons. Suniel Shetty’s glamorous team finished fourth last year, and they will be itching to break the jinx this time around. But can they replicate their talent on the field? Wait and watch!

The Wooden Spoon Holders: Veer Marathi

It was a disappointing season for Riteish Deshmukh and co. last year as they failed to register even a single victory. The Marathi boys will be eager to bounce back and shed the “wooden spoon” tag. Will Riteish’s newborn bring the much-needed luck to his team? Only time will tell!

So mark your calendars and block your weekends! The Celebrity Cricket League is here to entertain and enthrall you! Who are you rooting for? Let us know in the comments below.
