A true Bollywood star is the one who goes to any length to get into the skin of the character. Be it life-threatening stunts or working out at the gym for months together to either put on some extra kilos or shed the fat, our celebrities have done it all just to keep us entertained. As the audience, it would be unfair on our part to not give them the credit for their hard work and perseverance. Which is why, we thought of recognizing the five times Bollywood stars donned crazily heavy outfits, from super-heavy lehengas to metal arm sleeves, and made it seem like a cake-walk..all for us.
Although Alizeh aka Anushka donned a boho-chic avatar in the movie and sported some really awesome fusions (read: long-kurtas with distressed jeans and oxfords), we cannot ignore her elegant bridal look.
The actress had a tough time while shooting for the song Channa Mereya as the outfit she wore was a 20 kg lehenga designed by the ace designer, Manish Malhotra. To add to her misery, the song was shot over a span of four days and the girl threw zero tantrums while shooting for the same. Anushka revealed that although she looked beautiful in the traditional outfit, she did not feel beautiful. We can only imagine her plight.
Jodha Akbar was a grand movie. Everything from the sets to the locations of the movie were outstanding. And one cannot miss the costumes that the two actors, Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, were seen wearing. Ash looked every bit of a stunner in those classic Mughal outfits with the uncut-diamond jewellery.
Well, if you thought, it was an easy task looking like a beauty on-screen, think again. The craftsmen went as far as moulding 400 kg of gold and semi-precious stones to re-create Jodha’s jewellery and Ash carried all this effortlessly along with heavy embroidered-ghagra choli.
We loved Vivek’s acting as Kaal as the handicapped villain in Krrish 3. The actor slayed the look of the bad guy with a 28 kg suit and looked an absolute evil genius.
So much drama for looking wicked. This is something we can only get to see in Bollywood.
Although we got to see DP rocking this Anju Modi lehenga for a picture still, it was a task to get the perfect frame. Deepika’s main concern was to carry herself with elan in the heavy, ethnic wardrobe.
Seen here, DP is sporting a 30 kg ghagra. Yup, you heard that right. Remember those times when we were cribbing about wearing Indian outfits and carrying them with style and panache? Well, don’t you think we were just being cry babies?
Amitabh Bachchan in Shahenshah
The ever-iconic role of Shahenshah played by none other than the Big B is ingrained in everyone’s mind for the dialog, “Rishte mein toh hum tumhaare baap lagte hai, naam hai Shahenshah”, but never thought of the metal arm sleeve the actor sported.
While shooting for the movie, Mr. Bachchan was hit by a muscular disease, even then he insisted on wearing the metal suit. The arm alone of this suit weighed a whopping 18 kg. Well, he isn’t Shahenshah of Bollywood for nothing, what say?
We love our Bollywood stars and we appreciate the blood, sweat and tears they put in for every single role. Tell us in the comments below which of the other actors have sported heavy costumes for their roles?
