Generally underrated, Charlize Theron is possibly one of the best actors in Hollywood today. Known for her role in Mad Max: Fury Road, the actress was last seen playing Queen Ravenna in The Huntsman: Winter’s War. Superhero or antagonist, Theron can be a badass as both. From her very first role in the 1995 horror flick Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest till date, she has acted in movies of various genres in her 20 year-long career. Today marks her 41st birthday. In her honor, we bring you the reasons why the actress merits admiration. Take a look:
She has done movies in every genre
A well-rounded actress, Theron has practically acted in every genre throughout her career. Crime drama (Monster), post-apocalyptic science fiction (Mad Max: Fury Road), comedy-drama (Young Adult), action adventure (Aeon Flux), mystery thriller (The Devil’s Advocate), romantic comedy (Sweet November), fantasy animation (Kubo and the Two Strings), dark fantasy (Snow White and the Huntsman), sports drama (The Legend of Bagger Vance) – she has done them all.
And won awards for these films
In 2004, the actress won an Oscar for her role in Monster. Two years later, she was nominated Best Actress for North Country. Mad Max: Fury Road also got her a number of nominations and awards such as Critics’ Choice (won), Saturn Awards (won), MTV Movie Awards (won), and AACTA (nominated).
She has delivered brilliant performances in every genre
A versatile actress, Theron is proven to deliver her best in every genre. She received critical acclaim for several roles, especially for her portrayal of serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster. Besides, her roles in Mad Max: Fury Road, North Country, and Young Adult are also worth a mention.
She has experimented with her roles and looks
Theron has changed her looks as many times as she has changed her genres. Naturally gorgeous, she has managed to carry off every look beautifully. Take a look at her varied hairstyles over the years:
She’s not afraid to be pitted against men for great roles
After Mad Max: Fury Road, Theron’s desire for action movies began to grow. Generally, a genre featuring men in lead roles, Theron managed to bag several important roles, replacing top men as the action superstar. She is next set to take on a role originally intended for Brad Pitt, in The Gray Man, a thriller about a CIA operative-turned-assassin.
She has broken stereotypes
Theron’s role in Mad Max: Fury Road made her the King of Action. Not Queen, King. Because she took over the genre, and kicked more butt singly than the male-dominated Avengers. She proved that women, too, are built for action, and can fight just as bravely as men, if not better.
She’s more than just a great actress
She’s an actress, producer, celebrity, and also a generous and responsible human being. In 2008, she was named a United Nations Messenger of Peace, due to her efforts in improving the lives of children and women in South Africa through the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project. She is also a supporter of women’s rights, animal rights, and same-sex marriages.
We wish Charlize Theron a happy birthday and best of luck for her upcoming film, Kubo and the Two Strings. Watch the trailer of the film here:
