Chennai Floods: Reel Heroes Became Real Heroes

Last week, Chennai received the most rainfall in a century, flooding the city and damaging the property of hundreds. The city currently has respite from the rains, and is recovering with a lot of aid. The major credit for this goes to the Army, NDRF officials and the volunteers. The heavy rains flooded the homes of several, including successful Kollywood actors Siddharth and Vishal. But instead of focusing only on themselves, these actors decided to help others in need. The first person to venture out to help the distressed was actor Siddharth.

The star teamed up with popular radio jockey Balaji to help people in different parts of the city. They used social media to communicate with people, and address their needs. And support came in from all parts of the city. People came forward to help them by volunteering, donating funds, and even offering their vehicles for transportation.
Siddharth was soon joined by actors Dhanush, Vishnu Vishal, Udhayanidhi Stalin, Karthi, Khushbu Sundar and Vishal Krishna Reddy. Apart from contributing towards the relief work, Rajinikanth and Vijay opened their big wedding halls to provide temporary shelter for the needy. Kollywood beauties Hansika and Sri Divya also contributed a hefty amount towards the relief work.
It is not just the Tamil film industry, but the Telugu and Malayalam film industry have also contributed towards the relief work as well.
Tollywood star Rana Daggubati initiated the relief work, through his family-owned trust fund and began a campaign #ManaMadrasKosam (For Our Madras). Navdeep, Prabhas, Nani, and Kajal Aggarwal also supported this cause. Allu Arjun, Mahesh Babu and Jr NTR contributed to the Chief Ministers’ Relief Fund. Bollywood actors Varun Dhawan, Deepika Padukone, Nargis Fakhri and Abhishek Bachchan used their social media accounts to urge people to contribute towards the relief work.
Mollywood star Indrajith formed an initiative called #AnboduKochi to help raise funds for the relief work. Mammootty, Dulquer Salmaan, Mohanlal and Jayaram also generously contributed towards the relief operations through the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s fund.
As Chennai is slowly limping back to normalcy, the topic next shifts to rehabilitation. Siddharth and RJ Balaji took to their Twitter accounts to announce their campaign titled #ChennaiMicro, which will focus on helping people get back to their normal lives. Despite losing his house, office, studio and 3 cars, with a film release slated for this month, Siddharth took the initiative of helping those in need. Kudos for the efforts made by the actor and his team.
