No one can accuse Atif Aslam of being anything but a crowd-pleaser. A high dosage of charisma… that’s a one way of describing the event. The evening began with Aditi Singh Sharma crooning to popular Bollywood numbers such as Subah Hone Naa De, Balam Pichkari to name a few. She signed off by singing her latest popular song, Dhoom Machale Dhoom from Dhoom 3, and the crowd went roaring and grooved to the beats of this vivacious singer.
Then came the star of the evening, clad in casuals, wearing sunglasses with his acoustic guitar, performing to a crowd of nearly 800 people, the singer started with the fast number Woh Lamhe, Woh Yaadein that was rendered with perfection. The singer then sang a line of his pop hit numbers like Mein Ek Jism Hoon, Mahiyave Soniya and Apna Koi to name a few. He left the audience in splits when he sang old numbers like Aye Zindagi Gale Lagale and Gulabi Aankhein. Changing the pace of the show, Atif donned his acoustic guitar for a steady time, while the band accompanied him.
The fans shouted out his name throughout the concert and the placards said ‘Aadeez’, the name he is fondly known as by his fans. This was a constant reminder to show how much the city loves the soulful singer. The Pakistani singer was so moved by the cheering that he said “Mujhe bahut accha lagta hai ke India mujhe itna pyaar karti hai, mujhe bahut accha lag raha hai aaj yahan perform karte hue" (I am really happy to receive so much love from India and I am very happy to perform here). He even sprawled out at the side of the stage and carried a little boy from the audience and continued singing.
The most amazing aspect of it is to watch the spontaneity that the singer brings to his performances. He paused in between songs to listen to the audience continue singing it. The highlight of the evening was when the charismatic singer dedicated his Pehli Nazar Mein
song to all the women in the crowd. The singer also belted out other Bollywood numbers such as Tera hone laga hoon
from Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani, Jeene laga hoon
from Ramaiya Vastavaiya
. He wrapped up the evening by rendering his 1st hit single Aadat
which he later sang for the movie Hindi movie Kalyug
. Atif Aslam completely mesmerized the audience with his voice, he is a true rockstar who won over Chennai.
