If you are below 25 years of age, you probably saw Christina Applegate for the first time on TV in F.R.I.E.N.D.S, on which she played Rachel’s younger sister Amy. Fans of F.R.I.E.N.D.S (like you could be anything else) will agree that she is hilarious. Then Comedy Central came into our lives and televisions, broadcasting another comedy, which starred the actress in the lead role. While Amy dreamed of taking care of a baby (Emma, to be precise), Reagan has to suffer the consequences of having one in Up All Night. But apart from these two sitcoms, Christina Applegate has appeared in several television series, playing a main character in many of them. On her birthday, we bring you the best of them all. Take a look:
Married with Children
One of the main characters, Christina played Kelly Bundy, the first born of the Bundy family, on whom the show was based. She was a stereotypical blonde character – a classic role in the 90s. The show aired from 1987–1997, for 11 seasons. Get a glimpse of Kelly and her younger brother Bud here:
While this NBC sitcom ran for only two seasons, Christina was the star of the show. She played the lead character Jesse – a single mother working for her overbearing father at a bar. Things get hilarious when her ex-husband comes back to town, causing problems for her boyfriend.
While Amy only starred in two episodes of the ten seasons, she is probably one of the best guest characters to appear on the show. While the Thanksgiving episode will always remain our favorite, The One Where Rachel's Sister Babysits also cracked us up. Check it out here:
This ABC sitcom was co-created by Cecelia Ahern, the author of P.S. I Love You, and starred Christina in the lead role. She played Samantha, a selfish person, whose life changes after she meets with an accident. The supporting cast of the show include Melissa McCarthy and Jennifer Esposito.
Up All Night
The NBC comedy starred Christina Applegate, Will Arnett, and Maya Rudolph. It ran successfully for two seasons, before Christina left the show. It is rumored that she took on this role only because she had recently had a child herself.
While Christina only makes a guest appearance in the series, she certainly had an effect in that one episode. She takes on the role of Gail, Dean’s (Rob Lowe) high school sweetheart, whom he falls head over heels for again. Catch the promo of the episode here:
Saturday Night Live
One of the funniest and most consistent actresses of her generation, it’s hardly surprising to see Christina Applegate on SNL. We only wish we saw more of her on the sketch comedy series. Here’s a clip of one of her best moments on the show, in which you see Christina like never before:
Happy Birthday, Christina! You are our favorite of Rachel’s sisters.
