Even miracles take a little time…
A prince charming, a beautiful princess and a happy ever after… sounds dreamy doesn’t it? Fairy tales are an escape from the reality. The magical presence of these fairy tales are woven into most of our childhood memories. Now, as the nonchalant adults we prefer more of the realistic ideals on life, love and adventure (if they exist). But sometimes, a little bit of miracle (let’s say, fairy dust) helps to stir up emotions that are long gone or forgotten.
Christopher Wheeldon gives us a wonderful balletic adaption of the Brother Grimm’s popular fairy tale – Cinderella.
Wheeldon’s Cinderella is simply delightful. With deft choreography and direction, he transforms the fairy tale into a dreamy masterpiece. Powered by the fascinating designs by Julian Crouch, brilliant lighting by Natasha Kutz and the lush background scores by Sergei Prokofiev, Wheeldon’s Cinderella is an ingenious ensemble of art.
The actors – Anna Tsygankova and Matthew Golding gives life to the characters of Cinderella and Prince Guillaume. Every dance move, is done with utter finesse. It isn’t surprising to see all the characters illustrating the show with their fluid performance. The grand set design helped the well-know story to create an enchanting aura. The wonderfully-assembled four-horse chariot, the floating chandeliers and chairs is simply splendid and will leave you mesmerized.
Wheeldon added a few new elements to this classic tale. And it adds on to the marvelous production. The four male figures of fate who guards Cinderella and the spirits of Lightness, Generosity, Mystery and Fluidity, costumed in shades of green, orange, gold and aqua helps in creating a mystical charm. The way the spirits coach Cinderella for the ball and gives her a makeover, is the best part in the whole show. Thanks to the music by Prokofiev and the impeccable talent of the whole cast.
Why should you watch the film?
It’s not always that you get to watch your favorite fairy tale come to life. Packed with intense emotions and powerful performances, Christopher Wheeldon’s Cinderella is a luminous work of art. The extravagant sets, the mellow music and of course, the bewitching love of Cinderella and Prince Guillaume will restore your faith in happy ever after.
