5 Cricket Movies To Watch This IPL Season

Cricket is undoubtedly India's most-loved sport – it's played in small lanes as well as in the largest stadiums and cricketers have a cult-like following. And among all the cricket series that happen through the year, IPL is the sporting events everyone looks forward to the most. Indian Premier League is back once more for its 10th season this year. As the cricketing fever is sweeping the nation, here are five movies that will put you in the right mood to watch the sport:

Lagaan

No list of cricket movies can be complete without including Lagaan. Set in a small village in colonial India under British Rule, the movie features many memorable characters that stay with you long after the movie. This Aamir Khan starrer was a critical and commercial success and even managed to achieve a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes. It is an essential viewing for all Indian cricket fans. 

Iqbal

Iqbal is an emotionally moving movie of a deaf and mute boy obsessed with India's biggest sport who wants to fulfill the dream of becoming a cricketer. Shreyas Talpade plays Iqbal and Naseeruddin Shah plays the role of his coach, Mohit. The movie not only has authenticity but will also have you cheering for Iqbal till the very end, where we see him accomplishing everything he worked for against all odds. 

M. S. Dhoni The Untold Story

Dhoni's name is synonymous with one of the greatest captains in Indian cricket history. Sushant Singh Rajput plays the cricketer in the biopic, which had a successful release last year. It was shot in many real-life locations, including the Ranchi home where Dhoni grew up and where his family still stays. An insight into Dhoni's life will certainly get you in the mood to watch some IPL action. 

Patiala House

Akshay Kumar plays the lead role of a guy based in England in this sports drama. He just wants to play cricket but his father denies him the permission as he would be playing for England. Patiala House strongly shows the rivalries that follow cricket fans. This is one cricket movie that all passionate fans who blindingly support their home teams will relate to. 

Death of a Gentleman

Cricket isn't always fun and games. There are many scandals that happen in the cricketing world as well. Death of a Gentleman will show you the grisly side of the sport. It follows the troubling accusations that cricket boards of three countries, including the Indian BCCI, has taken over running the sport purely for financial gain. Running just short of a hundred minutes, the documentary will give you an insight to what happens in cricket beyond the stadiums.
