Cut Copy Adjust: 6 Bollywood Films Adapted From Books

Abhishek Kapoor’s Fitoor starring Aditya Roy Kapur, Katrina Kaif and Tabu is all set to release this Friday. The film is based on Charles Dickens’ best-seller The Great Expectations and there’s a lot of buzz around it. Later this year, we will also get to see Arjun Kapoor romance Shraddha Kapoor in the adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s Half Girlfriend. In fact, 2 States, Kai Po Che and 3 Idiots were also based on the author’s books and all of them proved to be big hits. Apart from these films, here are six other Bollywood movies that were adapted from books:

Bollywood Movies Adapted from Novels
One of last year’s biggest hits, Bajirao Mastani was an adaptation of the book Rau by N. S. Inamdar. The film fared exceptionally well at the box-office and has turned out to be quite a milestone in Ranveer Singh’s career.

Vidya Balan’s debut film was based on the Bengali novel of the same name. The novel was written by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1914.

Vishal Bhardwaj’s 2011 film was inspired by the book Susanna’s Seven Husbands. Priyanka Chopra played a negative character who murders her seven husbands.

Hello

Based on Chetan Bhagat’s One Night in a Call Center, Hello starred Sohail Khan, Sharman Joshi, Gul Panag and Amrita Arora. Salman Khan devoted a lot of his time and energy promoting this one. It didn’t do much for the movie’s fate at the box office though.

Aisha

Directed by debutant Rajshree Ojha, Aisha had Sonam Kapoor playing a rich spoilt brat. The movie, which was based on Emma by Jane Austen, did average business at the box-office.

The Namesake

Mira Nair’s critically-acclaimed film, The Namesake was adapted from Jhumpa Lahiri’s novel of the same name. Both, Tabu and Irrfan received rave reviews for their performances.
