Verdict: Movie of the week for hardcore action fans.
Haven’t watched a good action film in a while? Your wait ends now! Christian Gudegast’s heist film – Den of Thieves – with Gerard Butler and Pablo Schreiber as the lead protagonist and antagonist, hits theatres this week. The movie also stars rapper Curtis James Jackson III, better known as 50 Cent and O'Shea Jackson Jr. in prominent roles. Full of action, guns, heists and rap music, this movie is unmissable for action movie lovers. It has already grossed $32 million worldwide and is undoubtedly going to set the box office on fire here as well.
What’s Den of Thieves About:
Ray Merrimen (Pablo Schreiber) and Levi Enson (50 Cent) plan a heist on the Federal Reserve in Los Angeles. But LA sheriff Nick O’Brien (Gerard Butler) is onto them, courtesy Donnie (O'Shea Jackson Jr.), who is a member of Merrimen’s crew. While Donnie has provided Nick with little information about their plans, the heist itself is of a much larger scale, which includes robbing a commercial bank, taking hostages and planting Donnie inside the Federal Reserve building masquerading as a Chinese food delivery boy. Nick tries to foil Merrimen’s plans but he proves to be a step ahead of him with every move he makes. The twist, in the end, goes on to show how no one can ever be underestimated.
For an action film, Den of Thieves does its job of keeping its audience at the edge of their seats. There’s action in every scene and plenty of gunfights to satiate your need for thrills. The characters also have well-defined personality traits to help you relate to them. There’s a good and evil side shown in both the protagonist Nick O’Brien and antagonists Ray Merrimen and Levi Enson. The movie provides plenty of twists you won’t see coming even if you are an avid action movie fan. Rap music provides the perfect score to the ongoing action and you will find yourself tapping your feet as the intensity of the scenes picks up. All the actors do a decent job in their roles but O'Shea Jackson Jr. is the one to watch out for in this rewarding actioner.
What Could Have Been Better:
There are a few scenes that seem a little unnecessary. While Levi Enson’s family life has little to do with the plot of this film, Nick O’Brien’s divorce drama could have been completely done away with. Do not expect to be blown away but you will enjoy it if you just sit back and watch the action.
Why You Should Watch:
Den of Thieves is the only Hollywood action film in theatres right now. So if you are a fan of hardcore thrills, you know what to watch. Catch it for its unexpected twists that keep you guessing until the end.
