Verdict: A sweet and fun romantic comedy with a little Bollywood tadka.
After doing women-centric movies like Naam Shabana and Pink, Taapsee Pannu seems to be exploring the mainstream cinema. And after the huge success of Judwaa 2, she is back with another romantic comedy Dil Juunglee opposite Saqib Saleem. The movie, however, is a more about love, romance, and comedy than the dil being juunglee.
What's Dil Juunglee About:
The movie revolves around Koroli Nair aka Koro (Taapsee Pannu) who is the daughter of a millionaire businessman. Much to her dad's disappointment, she has no interest in the business and loves literature, especially romance novels. She dreams of a perfectly romantic life and getting married to the perfect man. She also is a literature counselor. In one of her class, she meets Sumit Uppal (Saqib Saleem) who wants to learn to speak English before an audition with a huge producer in Bombay. They become friends and then more than friends.
The relationship doesn't work out and breaks abruptly because of their different expectations from each other and life. They fall apart only to meet in London after seven years where Sumit has a girlfriend and Koro is getting married to a man, the kind that only exists in dreams.
The movie is a perfect fill for anyone who likes romantic movies and love stories. It has its shares of ups and downs in the story, some crazy moments, innocent romance and comedy. The movie moves fast making the story more entertaining and engaging. It has been shot in pretty locations especially the parts shot in London and the soft background score only enhances the beauty of the big screen.
The casting of the movie is pretty fresh and most of the faces are new to Bollywood. Taapsee Pannu goes through a makeover in the movie and you'll love her classy look (especially in the wedding lehenga). She is a good actor and impresses us this time as well. Saqib Saleem shows off his finely toned body and chiseled abs as the aspiring Bollywood star. He has adapted the Dilli ka launda avatar like a pro. Santosh Barmola as the rich, loving, chivalrous man makes you want him as your life partner. The YouTube stars Nidhi Singh and Srishti Shrivastava add the much-required humor to the story.
The two-hour long movie makes for a fun and sweet time.
What Could Have Been Better:
The movie has its share of cliches and "oh no, not again" moments that could make you feel that the characters just don't learn. But as the great Geet from Jab We Met said "Everything is okay when you're in love", so the film does just fine.
Why You Should Watch This Movie:
The movie is a typical Bollywood rom-com that makes you smile at the stupid romantic things that couples do for each other. There are good looking actors, awful situations, and love that stands out everywhere. If you are the person who likes romance – the Bollywood kind – you must watch the movie this weekend with your friends and the one who is more than just a friend.
