The Dire Straits Graces the Shores of the Sub-Continent for a Cause

Dire Straits fans rejoice! The band is all set to perform in the country for the first time since 2005. Dire Straits will be playing in the event 'Play for a Cause' by 100 Pipers. The event which is held annually this time seems to be bigger than ever. With the event supposed to be held on the 17th of March in NCR and on the 19th of March in the city of Bengaluru, it will be featuring the original Dire Straits bandmates and the fans will witness them revive the repertoire and bring in a wave of nostalgic music fiesta.

The British rock band, Dire Straits was formed in Deptford, London, in the year 1977. The band members included Mark Knopfler as the lead vocalist and the lead guitarist, his younger brother David Knopfler as the rhythm guitarist and the backing vocalist, John Illsley as the bass guitarist and backing vocalist with Pick Withers at the drums and percussion.

The sound that Dire Straits' came up with had musical influences from multiple genres like jazz, folk, and blues.

The band's many compositions have been called nostalgic and are highly revered by fans and critics alike. Their best-selling album, Brothers in Arms came out in 1985 and till date has sold somewhere over 30 million copies.

Incidentally, this was also the first album to sell over a million copies on the then new data storage format, the compact disc, known by the more popular acronym 'CD'.

One of the most commercially successful bands in the world, Dire Straits has four Grammy Awards along with three Brit Awards under its belt along with other popular awards that it won over the years.

With them finally performing in India, this is going to be one of those events where you not only will have the legendary British Rock band performing live but you will also be a part of a dedicated effort to help sustainably provide clean drinking water to the people of Rajasthan.

The 'Play for a Cause' concert is one of those events where great music comes together to support a cause that will create a difference for good. With the event slated to take place on the 17th of March in the NCR region and on the 19th of March in Mumbai, getting your tickets booked at the earliest would be a good idea.
