Rohit Dhawan‘s Dishoom is everything that you expect when you know a ‘Dhawan’ is involved in the project. It is exactly the action-adventure film that one can expect. But, it isn’t just that but much more. Dishoom is hilarious, power-packed and an absolute crowd-pleaser. It has the perfect dose of masala magic that Bollywood is so famous for.
Dishoom begins with an abduction. India’s ‘best batsman’ Viraj Sharma (Saqib Saleem) goes missing just before a final match with Pakistan and the authorities receive a video that makes it clear how his safety is threatened. Special arrangements are made and two men find themselves on a mission to find the cricketer. The cop-duo is great together – an accomplished, no-nonsense Indian special task force agent – Kabir Shergill (John Abraham) and Junaid Ansari (Varun Dhawan), a rookie cop working in Middle East.
The film follows the story of how they go after the suspects and in their search for Viraj engage in adventures of their own. From meeting the cute thief Ishika (Jacqueline Fernandez) to finding the real villain behind the kidnapping – Wagah a.k.a Rahul (Akshaye Khanna); it’s quite a roller-coaster ride. Along the way there are interesting cameos and surprises.
Where the film does an outstanding job is managing the twists and turns of the story. The action sequences are another great part of Dishoom. It does an excellent job with the stunts and power-packed and dramatic action scenes. From the scene where Varun and John are hanging by a helicopter to Varun’s chase scene, the film lives up to it’s action-adventure film tag. The jokes may be a little repetitive, but the comedy is exactly what you would expect in a Dhawan film. Akshaye Khanna almost pulls off a cool role playing a baddie.
Jacqueline looks great in the movie and her chemistry with both the actors is terrific. But it is John and Varun who together form a winning team – the bhai-love is visible. Varun does an incredible job. The jokes, the stunts and the comic timing is just brilliant. The film is fun and demands that you not think too hard.
Why You Should Watch This Movie:
Watch Dishoom if it is a fun time you are looking for. The jokes may be a little repetitive, but you are bound to love the action sequences, and will absolutely love the Dhawan-esque flavor of Dishoom. Go book your ticket, you will NOT regret it!
