The award season is almost done with, with the exception of the Academy Awards, where we can’t wait to see if Leonardo DiCaprio finally manages to bag his first Oscar (fingers crossed!). The Academy Awards also promises to feature some of the biggest red carpet moments of the season. The clothes worn by celebrities to these events receive intense worldwide media scrutiny, making it a critical part of these functions.
Prior to the 1990s, many celebrities chose their own dresses, with the Oscars being remembered for some extraordinary and eccentric outfit choices. Then came in the era of fashion designers, where big names like Valentino, Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, Christian Dior, Giorgio Armani, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton, and more brought their A-game to the red carpet. While the women dazzled with their colorful outfits, men preferred the classic black and white tuxedos.
Recently though, male celebrities, too, are exploring their colorful side, opting for a more vibrant, attention-grabbing look. Here’s a list of the men we love who ditched the conventional for the red carpet:
Pink is the new black
Who said only women can wear pink? Sam Hunt gorgeously carried off this dashing look at the Grammy Awards.
The cropped suit
Sure, it’s still black and white, but Wiz Khalifa‘s embellished three-piece suit is unlike any seen on the red carpet. The pearl vest and cropped pants definitely made him stand out at the Grammy Awards. No wonder Kanye West likes his pants!
Got the blues?
Last year’s award season had 50 shades of blue! Men are finally realizing that black isn’t the only color that looks good on them. These navy tuxes look amazingly dapper.
Justin Bieber‘s AMAs look was probably inspired by the college-going teenagers of Bandra. The Sorry hit maker wore a Nirvana shirt to the awards last year, a tribute to its lead singer, Kurt Cobain. Let’s hope Bieber does not look up to his idol for life choices as well.
Stop and smell the roses
Traditional is boring! Harry Styles took a major risk wit this head-to-toe floral suit with bell-bottom pants, but it absolutely paid off. Then again, is there anything Harry Styles would not look good in?
Hang on to that hat
Pharrell is probably the only person on the planet who can wear an ugly vintage hat to the Grammy Awards, and carry it off like a boss! The hat got so popular, that it has its own Twitter account. No, seriously! See https://twitter.com/pharrellhat
