Double Trouble: 8 Hollywood Films with Multiple Roles

Bollywood loves the use of double roles. While it has only been effective in a handful of them, Hollywood has been more efficient with the use of double or even multiple roles. Here we have eight films where the actors play more than one role – some double, some triple and some even quadruple. A varying range of thrillers, all with multiple roles with a twist. Here's an honorable mention – Being John Malkovich (1999), there's a pivotal scene in the film where actor John Malkovich plays hundreds of versions of himself. We only go as crazy as he does. Enjoy the list!

The Double (2013)
This bleak comedy film is about a man driven to breakdown when he is usurped by a doppelganger. The film boasts of a riveting performance by Jesse Eisenberg who portrays the polarized personalities of Simon and James with ease.

Cloud Atlas (2012)
A heavy film with multiple plots set across six different eras. Each actor of the ensemble cast (including Tom HanksHalle BerryHugh Grant and more) plays a different role across each of the six timelines.

The Fountain (2006)
Similar to Cloud Atlas, this movie has actors playing different characters across three story-lines. The movie stars Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz . The film blends elements of fantasy, mortality, history, spirituality and science fiction.

Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004)
A rather dark comedy for children, the film is carried by Jim Carrey who disguises himself across three different roles, returning to haunt the children every time.

Adaptation (2002)
Directed by Spike Jonze and written by Charlie Kaufman, the film is about a screenwriter named Charlie Kaufman, played by Nicholas Cage. He also happens to have a twin brother in the film, only adding to the film's unconventionality.

Face/Off (1997)
Another Cage starrer, opposite John Travolta, this one's an FBI agent and the other is a terrorist and they literally exchange faces in this thriller.

Enemy (2013)
A purely psychological thriller hard to crack, the film stars Jake Gyllenhaal as two men who are physically identical, but different in terms of personality.

The Parent Trap (1998)
A Disney movie starring Lindsay Lohan back when she was cute. What's as cute as a little Lindsey? Another Lindsay!
