6 Popular Dubbing Artists You Need to Know About

 Vikram is one of the most popular actors in Tamil cinema. Fans love him for his talent and the story behind his climb to fame. But did you know, during Vikram’s struggling days, he was a voice-over artist. Not just that, Vikram was the voice behind some of the popular actors. He dubbed for popular actor Ajith Kumar in Amaravathi, for Prabhu Deva in VIP and for Abbas in Kandukondain Kandukondain. Kollywood boasts of many dubbing artists who dub for top-league actors in the film industry. Have you ever wondered who the dubbing artists for Hansika, Trisha and Aishwarya Rai are? The winner of three Tamil Nadu State Awards and three Andhra State Awards, Savitha is one of the most reputed dubbing artists in the south film industry. She has been in the industry for over 20 years and has worked in over 1000 films. Wow, now that’s something! It doesn’t stop there. This lovely lady has dubbed for Jyothika, Simran, Tamannaah, Nayanthara, Trisha, Amala Paul and Hansika. There was a time when she would dub for Simran and Jyothika on the same day for two different films. Recently, she dubbed for Hansika and Tamannaah who featured in an advertisement together. Another interesting fact is that she dubbed for Amala Paul in the film Deiva Thirumagal, whereas her daughter dubbed for Baby Sara’s character in the same film. Savitha even dubbed for Aishwarya Rai in Enthiran. This is the proof that she’s one of the most sought out dubbing artists in the Telugu and Tamil film industries.
Raveena Ravi 
Loved the voice of Amy Jackson in I and Theri? The voice of the popular British actress is Raveena Ravi. Daughter of the dubbing artist, Sreeja Ravi and singer/dubbing artist Ravindranathan, Raveena began her career as a dubbing artist in 1999. However, she shot to fame after the film I. She also lent her voice for Nayanthara in the Malayalam film Bhaskar the Rascal and for Catherine Tresa in Kanithan. She is said to make her acting debut very soon. Looks like we’ll finally get to see a face behind that lovely voice.
Deepa Venkat
"Poda unaku Then Mozhi, Kani Mozhi nu yevalachum kedaipa…" familiar with the voice behind this dialogue? It’s a dialogue that was said by Nayanthara in Raja Rani, and the voice behind this popular dialogue is Deepa Venkat’s. Apart from being a dubbing artist, Deepa Venkat is also an actress and an RJ.  In 2012, she won the Norway Tamil Film Festival Award for Best Dubbing Artist for Mayakkam Enna. She has also been awarded the Kalaimamani award by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
Apart from being a popular singer, Chinmayi is also a dubbing artist. She has dubbed for several lead actresses in Tamil films, including Tamannaah Bhatia, Sameera Reddy, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Trisha Krishnan. However, she attained fame as a dubbing artist after she lent her voice for Jessie (played by Trisha) in Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya. She also dubbed for the same characters in Telugu and Hindi versions of the film. This fetched her the Nandi Award from the Andhra Pradesh Government. She has dubbed for Samantha in several films including 24, A Aa and Brahmotsavam, making her the voice of Samantha.
Ravi Shankar
We all remember the terrifying voice of Pasupathi and his powerful command over the word Bommayi from the film Arundhati. The voice behind that is none other than the popular actor P. Ravi Shankar. The actor is known for appearing in negative roles in films. One may remember him from the Kannada film Kempe Gowda and the Tamil film Indru Netru Naalai. Ravi Shankar’s effort as a dubbing artist has fetched him nine Nandi Awards. He is also the popular voice over artist for Ashish Vidyarthi in Telugu films. In the film Race Gurram, Ravi Shankar dubbed for three artists – Shaam, Ravi Kishan and Mukesh Rishi. This is commendable, isn’t it?
TNB Kathiravan
One of Tamil cinema’s most popular male dubbing artists is Kathiravan. He is the son of  yesteryear director TN Balu. Kathiravan has dubbed for several artists like Ashish Vidyarthi, Vidyut Jamwal, Sharath Lohitashwa, and for some Telugu films which have been released in Tamil.

Vilasini has dubbed for Sri Divya in Maruthu, while popular actress Rohini has dubbed for Aishwarya Rai in Iruvar, Guru and Raavanan. She also dubbed for Jyothika in Vettaiyadu Vilayadu.
