Prem (Ayushmann Khurrana) is a humble man, who failed to complete his studies. He adores Kumar Sanu‘s voice and looks after his father’s tapes and audio cassette shop. On the other hand, Sandhya (Bhumi Pednekar) is an educated woman aspiring to be a teacher. She is smart and the woman of modern times that any man would want to marry. Will the two ever be able to fall in love? If yes, how? form the crux of the film. Yash Raj Films is back with the first release of the year and the film definitely surprises us! Set in Haridwar, the story takes us back to the 90s when the audio cassettes were a rage, and Kumar Sanu’s voice was topping the music charts. Directed by Sharat Kataria, the film jumps to the crux of the story from the very start. There is no lag whatsoever. Ayushmann Khurrana as Prem is convincing. He effortlessly carries off the role of a helpless man who is forced to marry against his wishes, with elan. Bhumi Pednekar who makes a debut in the film is a talent to watch out for. She definitely makes her presence felt and looks extremely comfortable with her appearance on screen. However, what makes the film an enjoyable ride is the remaining cast. Especially Sanjay Mishra whose amazing comic timings will definitely leave you in splits.
Yash Raj Films has always presented us with crowd-pleasing romantic stories and Dum Laga Ke Haisha is no different. However, the story lacks novelty. Moreover, even the songs are mediocre and doesn’t really help the story.
