Festivals are a favorite usually because of all the finger-licking delicacies they bring with them. And when it comes to Eid, all we can think of is the awesomeness that is about to unfold in the form of rich biryani, kebabs and mouth-watering sweets. But with all those palatable flavors, we have to worry about all the weight gain that usually follows a festival. With incredible dishes, it is very often difficult to abstain and we end up giving in to our taste-buds. Now, we aren't saying skip eating everything high-cal that is set on the table. But using your discretion is important. We are here to give you the cheat sheet to celebrate Eid 2016, and yet have the scales in your favor.
Yummy mutton biryani is something you cannot say 'no' to on Eid. But all that rice and oil can be too much. Choose to have one serving instead of a couple, and have it with lots of salad and raita. Make sure you use the 1:2 ratio.
Of Ghosht and Galouti kebabs
These soft and tender, minced meat kebabs are hard to resist. So is that lovely rich mutton gravy. So, don't miss out on them. But stick to one or two pieces or servings.
Sweets: Seviyans, Shahi Tukdas and Sufi Malpuas
If you have a sweet tooth, you are probably going to have a tough time. But reducing the amount of sweets will help you. Or play it smart and replace fried sweets with dates or anjeers.
Try desserts with a twist
Why go for the same ol' desserts. Try something new this Eid. Go for kleicha – a type of cookie from Iraq – and date squares! These are rich in certain ways but you can get healthy alternative recipes and keep those kilos in check.
Avoid aerated drinks
Ditch Coke and Pepsi for mint tea with honey or plain water. Why waste calories on those drinks when you can go for something that you actually like.
So, go ahead and enjoy! Eid Mubarak 🙂
