As a 15-year-old Ranbir Kapoor probably would have dreamt and wished to be part of Barcelona, his favorite football team, but life and his lineage had other plans. He became a Bollywood actor and a pretty good one, we must say. So what if he didn't become a world-renowned footballer? He still plays his favorite sport and also owns a football team in the most popular and glamorous football league in India called the Indian Super League. And he is not the only movie star who is an ardent sports fan!
Right from Bollywood to the four major South Film Industries, many actors and actresses love various sports and are also involved in at least one league at the ownership level.
Ranbir owns the Mumbai City FC, which is one of the top teams in the Hero Indian Super League. In the 2016 season, Mumbai City FC managed to reach the top of the table but were knocked out in the semi-finals by Atletico de Kolkata who then went on to become the champions. Ranbir must have been upset about the loss but his team has managed to show tremendous improvement since the first season in 2014.
The King Khan owns the Kolkata Knight Riders team in the Indian Premier League and can be seen attending all the matches looking the most enthusiastic and cheering on for his team.
A sports freak and a football fanatic, Jr. Bachchan, who supports Chelsea, has been seen supporting the Jaipur Pink Panthers owned by him since 2014. His team won the inaugural season of the Pro Kabaddi League in 2014. He is also the co-owner of the Chennaiyin FC, who won the ISL 2015.
Another football fanatic, John owns the North-East United Football Club that plays in the Hero ISL. He also co-owns the Delhi Waveriders who won the Hockey India League in 2014.
Preity Zinta co-owns the Kings XI Punjab IPL team and stands by her team notwithstanding the many controversies surrounding it. Even though her team has never won a championship, she never misses a match and is always her cheerful self. Her 'Jaadu Ki Jhappi' sure has helped her team deal with all the issues they were embroiled in as a team.
The Telugu superstars co-own the Kerala Blasters team of the ISL along with the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar. If that was not enough star power for the team, Nivin Pauly was brought in as the Youth Ambassador of the team. This is one team that does not lack in anything, be it star-power, amazing fans and some super talented players who never fail their supporters.
Born to the ace Indian Badminton player, Prakash Padukone, Deepika was and still is a talented badminton player. Had she continued with badminton, she could have probably represented India on an international level but she had other plans to attain the coveted stardom. She can be seen playing a few charity matches with her father and a few exhibition matches at the International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) but is yet to own a team. It would be interesting to see her own a team in a league.
Sonakshi Sinha, Akshay Kumar and Honey Singh
The Dabangg girl owns the United Singhs kabaddi team, which participates in the World Kabaddi League. She is not the only star to own a team. Akshay Kumar owns the Khalsa Warrior and Indian rapper Honey Singh owns the Yo Yo Tigers.
