January has a line-up of music events sure to excite lovers of classical music in Mumbai. Here’s a handy guide.
Eighty flutists will perform accompanied by Milind Raikar on violin, Fazal Qureshi on tabla and Atul Raninga on keyboard. This will be followed by a performance by Rakesh Chaurasia on the Hindustani flute, Shashank Subramanium on the Carnatic flute, Jayachandra Rao on mridangam and Satyajit Talwalkar on tabla. Flute maestro Hariprasad Chaurasia will perform with flautist Vivek Sonar and Ramkumar Mishra on tabla.

Western Melodies Of Tagore
Members of Mumbai music groups Shahana Shilpi Sangha and Cadenza Kantori will present Celtic and English compositions that Rabindranath Tagore adapted. Both the original tunes and Tagore’s versions will be performed.

Listen to Hindustani classical vocalist Rashid Khan, R Prasanna, who plays Carnatic classical music on the guitar, playback singer Shilpa Rao and Guinean singer and kora player N’Faly Kouyate at this annual festival that celebrates maestros of music from across the world.
