Akkad Bakkad Bambey Bo – A Fierce And An Intense Game

XpressionZ Productions staged Akkad Bakkad Bambey Bo, a rendition of the 1970 play called “Sleuth” by the famous playwright Anthony Shaffer on Friday at a petite little drama house called the Tortilla House in Koramangla and it was single-handedly the most comfortable and engaging play we have watched so far. The play staged stays true to the original plotline of the play, albeit for the changes in the character names. With tensions running ever so high and an absolutely brilliant performance by the two-person cast of the play, here’s why you should definitely catch this play on its close approaching next show.

What is Akkad Bakkad Bambey Bo about:

Amit is an over-imaginative and rather a manipulative crime novelist who is engrossed in the lives of his characters’ and not his own. He has a ludicrous fascination towards playing games preferably of the mind games kind. In this pursuit, he challenges his wife’s lover Majid to a “burglar game” and convinces him to pretend to steal his jewellery, leading to a course of events that keeps the audience engaged until the very end trying to decipher if these events have actually happened or were a result of Amit’s overworked imagination and a work of fiction in his head.

What Works:

The heated conversation/interrogation between the two is portrayed beautifully and you could definitely cut the tension in the room with a knife. Saurav Verma plays Amit with utmost conviction and delivers some seriously great acting. Anurag Puthige plays Inspector Diganth and shifts character so smoothly when the plot of the play calls for it. With good background score, this was definitely worth the watch.

What could have been better:

The plot goes to many places and new characters are introduced right off the bat without much of an introduction of the characters. But with the time constraint of an hour, the production company has done a great job at contracting the play.

Why you should watch this play:

Absolutely engaging at every scene with great acting and a nice comfortable setting, this play is a wonderful watch if you’re looking to do something different this weekend with your family and friends.
