Comic-Con is one of the biggest pop culture events of the year in many cities in India – Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Delhi. In Mumbai, Comic-Con was held on two days – 11th and 12th November at the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Goregaon East. From the beginning to the end, it was a blast with not a boring moment in between. If you were not able to attend Maruti Suzuki Mumbai Comic Con 2017, these are the highlights of the best things that happened on the most fun weekend of the year.
Activities at Mumbai Comic Con 2017
This year had plenty of activities to entertain the fans of all kinds. The superhero movie fans had a chance to click pictures with the heroes of the latest Marvel offering, Thor: Ragnarok or the upcoming Justice League. You could even wield a saber and be a part of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The Pixar fans also got to experience the new film, Coco, with a state-of-the-art VR Oculus headset, click pictures with a guitar, and get their portrait made by a professional artist.

A huge 360-degree VR dome was set up for Mahabharata to which you could get exclusive access by buying a poster. Maruti Suzuki had a trampoline set up where you could jump and have a picture taken with special effects edited in. The sponsors Mountain Dew and Doritos were also running games. For the gaming fans, Mountain Dew had set up multiple gaming stations and even offered a taste of their energizing drink.
The sporty ones could feel like a winner by taking a picture in the WWE zone holding up the championship belt. AXN also had an experience zone where fans of the shows Breaking Bad, The Voice, The Vikings and Sherlock could play games like a wall-sized picture puzzle for the Sherlockians and a game similar to darts for The Vikings to win exciting prizes. It wasn't all just for adults – there was even a welcoming space for the young ones with a large My Little Pony zone.
Mumbai Comic Con 2017 Guests
This time, Mumbai Comic Con added a few famous YouTube personalities to their guest line-up. This included the actress and comedian Mallika Dua, who's famous for her Dubsmash videos. Sahil Shah, another well-known comedian, who is a part of the comedy group, East India Comedy, was also there to make people laugh. The people behind the hilarious YouTube channel, Be YouNick and MostlySane's Prajkta Koli were also guests at Mumbai Comic Con. There was also an exclusive poster reveal of Ghoul featuring actors Radhika Apte and Manav Kaul, director Patrick Graham, and producer Vikram Aditya Motwane.
The homebrewed comic book artists this year were Abhijeet Kini, Saumin Suresh Patel, Sailesh Gopalan, Rajeev Tamhankar, Tarun Kumar Sahu, Vivek Goel, and Sumit Kumar. Among the international guests were comic book artists Andrew Griffith of the Transformers comics, David Lloyd who's the artist behind the iconic V for Vendetta, Yishan Li who's the manga artist behind Buffy – The Vampire Slayer, and Nick Seluk, the creator of the webcomic Awkward Yeti. One of the most popular international guests were the professional cosplayers, Nicole Marie Jean and Michael Cassada, with whom people lined up to take pictures. All the international stars had a session where they talked about their work and answered questions from the fans.
Merchandise at Mumbai Comic Con 2017
Mumbai Comic Con remains the haven for pop culture merchandise. While some merch at the convention can be bought online, there were special discounts and customizations that you could get done in front of you. Everything from geeky posters, wall clocks, pendants, t-shirts, collectibles, books, notebooks, wallet, ties, and mugs were available for popular movies, shows, games, and anime. Apart from the usual, there was a stall for Drona Aviation which sold drones where you could try out the fascinating technology for free and the Wacom stall where the artists could try their hand at the interactive tablet. Those who have been craving some official merch from Warner Brothers franchises like Harry Potter, Hunger Games in India had the chance to buy it at the EFG stall. Harry Potter fans could also get a chocolate frog for the first time in India at Happy Giftmart.
