Open Deck Bus Tour: Review- A magnificent joyride!

Mumbai is a city of dreams. Every street and every lane is filled with stories that most us are unaware of. How many times have we passed by the Asiatic Library and the Horniman Circle and noticed their resplendent beauty? We all are so oblivious to the history and culture that this city has to offer. This is why Raconteur Walks has been keeping the history alive with their educational tours. On May 9th 2015, they launched their first open air bus tour where the tourists can rediscover the heritage and history of Mumbai.

The tour that takes place in the evening, starts at the world famous UNESCO Heritage Site Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. The guide starts off by narrating the story of Mumbai, the seven marsh island. Following that, you are led to the bus where you settle down with a bottle of lemonade and the warm summer air stroking your face while you tour around the Old Fort area. Every structure you come across is a building block to the story of Mumbai as it is today. The tour is filled with a dozen odd Victorian Gothic Architectural masterpieces and the chaos of the evening hour which is a perfect setting to discover the city in. The guides are highly knowledgeable and courteous and are open to questions and suggestions. You can tell that they are really passionate about their work and the history of the city. Though most of the landmarks of the city were covered, they did miss out on the Gateway of India, which is the most important of them all. But overall, the tour from Ballard Estate to Chowpatty was a fun ride and a unique experience. The tour portrays the city in a different light and the setting sun just adds to its charm. Seeing the beautiful Queen’s Necklace at twilight really makes you appreciate the beauty of the city. Highly recommended for tourists and residents alike, who would like to know everything there is to know about the city.
