Lately, with the rise in the number of stand-up comedians from almost all parts of the country, it’s almost impossible to do stand-up as a full-time profession. Shankar Chughani is trying to defy all odds by entertaining people, from small open-mic audiences to large city crowds, and is without a doubt, making a name for himself.

About the act:

Although it was a rather small audience, the artists seemed comfortable and actively involved the guests in their acts. The host for the evening, Gautham Govindan, warmed the audience with his blissful personality. He spoke about his looks and how his teeth are arranged like the chess pieces in a jumbled chess board! Although he had the stage for only a couple of minutes, he did a splendid job in warming us up.

And then the main act began. Shankar Chughani was welcomed to the stage by Gautham, accompanied by an applause. His jokes, as always, were funny especially when you know the context behind them, as most of them were based on his own experiences. His self-depreciating humor questioned whether we were laughing at his jokes or at him. He then talked about his height and how he disliked being short. His personal stories and anecdotes meandered through different emotions and, in the end, made the audience tear up.

In conclusion, the night was cheerful and the artists kept everyone entertained for the whole hour. Gautham Govindan was as enthusiastic and hysterical as the main act. The individuals who performed are struggling artists trying to make their mark in comedy, so do keep an eye out for them.

In case you haven’t seen Shankar Chughani live, what are you waiting for?
