Taboo Talks - BookMyShow

“Taboo Talks” Will Make You Extremely Uncomfortable

Being the largest democracy has never quite helped us with free speech. Everything from being a sex worker to passing gas is a taboo in the society. Almost all the things that require understanding and talking are considered a taboo. Talking too much is a taboo too. And while we are hesitant to think about these things, Taboo Talks, speaks freely and openly about things we ignore while we continue to live in our small comfort bubble.

Taboo Talks is a set of contemporary monologues bringing untold stories; delving into the hearts of shunned or unvoiced characters. Stories that will tell you the truth, disturbing yet real, disgusting yet existent, horrifying yet factual.

Best of three seasons not only meant the best of all the three seasons but the most disturbing ones as well. The reality is disturbing and these monologues will give you a glimpse of how life has been for many. All the stories are screaming to be heard and will end up giving you a new perspective towards your take on small things in life, things that matter to you and things that you thought didn't matter.

Taboo Talks - BookMyShow

This edition of Taboo Talks was staged at the Studio Tamaasha, which has a very intimate setting, so much that you feel the performance more than you watch it. There are three rows of comfortable seating at a distance of mere few feet from the performer, sans a division. It was a room lit by a few lights with two banners on both sides. They had illustrations that are not supposed to be spoken about in open, generally. I thought they depicted the stories that were going to be told there, however, there were much more to the monologues than those. The setting surely helped enhance the effect of the stories.

Life is full of colors along with some shades of grey we cannot ignore. These monologues will make you ponder on how easy it would have been for you or anyone to accept everything "normally" if you knew the other side of the story. But just because it was right for them, is it the right thing to do? All our lives we have been told to not talk freely about certain things that are considered a taboo in our society or family. But just because there are some unwritten rules, do we abide by them? Or should we rebel against our own people who have been following the same their whole life? This and many more thoughts, questions, and doubts will pass through your mind during the acts. It seemed that they were written with the same intent.

Created by Baljeet Randhawa and a Dream Stage Production, Taboo Talks is not for the weak hearted. It's for those who want to know the truth behind these taboos. If you think you can stand the truth, this one should not be missed.
