This weekend, tear yourself from Netflix and step out into nature. One great option is taking a trip to the stunning Kaas plateau near Satara to experience a breath-taking phenomenon.

Declared a bio-diversity site by UNESCO in 2012, Maharashtra’s very own ‘valley of flowers’ is home to more than 850 species of flowering plants that begin to bloom as the monsoons retreat. Carpeted in wildflowers as far as the eye can see, the 1,000-hectare plateau transforms into a riot of colour for a short time between August and October.

The unique ecosystem of the place also allows around 33 endangered species of plants to thrive in Kaas. One of the plants found on the plateau is the karvy that blooms only after a period of eight years. Every few weeks, as the cycle of flowering plants progresses, the plateau changes hue from purple to pink to yellow and white.

Right about now is actually one of the best times to visit the Kaas plateau. Sign up for one of these weekend tours.
