One of the most exciting events in the Indian festival circuit is coming up. The Mahindra Blues Festival, which will take place at Mehboob Studio on Saturday, February 8 and Sunday, February 9, has, as always, a super line-up. Here’s a look at the artists, all of whom are American, performing this year.
Singer-songwriter and guitarist Keb’ Mo’s music is delta blues that moved up the Mississippi and across America, influencing the roots of music in the country before being recognised as its own art form. Born Kevin Moore, he adopted his stage name keeping with the tradition of blues men. His sound incorporates multiple genres, including pop, rock, folk and jazz.
Larkin Poe is an American rock band from Georgia, fronted by sisters Rebecca and Megan Lovell. Their sound is driven by southern harmonies and electric guitar riffs. The sisters have also toured as backing musicians for a various other artists, most notably Elvis Costello and Keith Urban.
Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band
Kenny Wayne Shepherd has created genre-defining blues-infused rock n’ roll. An accomplished recording artist, a captivating live performer and one of the most talented and distinctive guitarists of his generation, Shepherd has received five Grammy nominations.
One of the most iconic American blues men alive today, Buddy Guy (pictured above) ranked 23rd in Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time. His song Stone Crazy ranked 78th in the Rolling Stone list of the 100 greatest guitar songs of all time. Eric Clapton once called him “the best guitar player alive”.
