What to Watch at the NCPA This Month

If you live in South Bombay, there’s probably only one place you go to for watching plays or concerts. Even if you do not live in town, you have definitely heard of this place. It’s one of the first names to pop up in one’s mind when one thinks of theatre in the city. The National Centre for Performing Arts, more commonly known as NCPA, is the hub for theatre, music, and dance performances and screenings in Mumbai. Lucrece

A dramatic adaptation of a Shakespearean poem, this is the tale of a woman who is forced to find power in the most challenging of circumstances and empower others towards societal change. Starring Kalki KoechlinSuruchi Aulakh, and Deepal Doshi, Lucrece tackles current issues around sexual assault and patriarchy in a drama directed by Paul Goodwin.

The Mousetrap

The longest running show in the world is now in your city! An adaptation of a masterful whodunit by Agatha Christie, The Mousetrap revolves around a group of strangers trapped inside a house with a murderer. Experience the mystery and suspense of one of the greatest crime plays brought to you from London’s West End.

ABBA – Platinum The Live ABBA Tribute Show

Raell Padamsee’s ACE Productions presents a stunning tribute to one of the most successful musical acts of all time. The internationally acclaimed Platinum shall perform on some of ABBA’s greatest hits like Mamma MiaDancing QueenMoney Money Money, and many more. So, get ready for a musical celebration like never before!

A Very English Christmas

The choir of Somerville College, Oxford, is all set to make their debut performance in celebrating the Christmas season. The programme will include choral classics by BrahmsBachRutterVaughan Williams and more as well as some popular Christmas songs. So gear up ‘cause Santa Claus is coming to town!

Dhumrapaan

Directed by Akarsh Khurana, this play is a comedy about the rat race and how we cope with it. Set in the smoking area of a corporate building over the period of a week, the play explores the stories of office employees discussing appraisals, politics, and relationships, while dealing with stress, fears, and insecurities.

NCPA Pravaha Dance Festival, 2018

Pravaha is dedicated to new creations in Indian dance. Come witness eminent dancers like Madhavi Mudgal (Odissi), Mallika Sarabhai (Dance Theatre), Vaibhav Arekar and Geeta Chandran (Bharatanatyam) as they present their newest art forms, born out of their many years of honed talent and experience.

Disney Aladdin

After a successful run of shows earlier this year, the superhit musical is back for Season 2. Get ready to be transported to a magical world with a world-class production boasting of spectacular sets, special effects, a wow-worthy magic carpet ride sequence, and sing along once again to classics such as Friend Like Me and A Whole New World.

Salaam 1950s Ke Naam

This magnum opus is Ekjute’s tribute to the golden era of Indian cinema. Take a walk down memory lane with conventional formulaic ingredients such as star-crossed lovers, revengeful families, love triangles, conniving villains, loving friends, dramatic twists, and convenient coincidences. This play has been written and directed by Nadira Babbar.

Boarding Das Christmas Special Marathon by Vir Das

The highest selling English stand-up comic in India is back in your city for the festive season.
