February has an exciting roster of plays in Bangalore, from Girish Karnad’s plays at Ranga Shankara to Amol Palekar’s new drama Kusur and Piya Behrupiya, Atul Kumar’s rambunctious Hindi musical based on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night.

‘Piya Behrupiya’

Director Atul Kumar’s popular Hindi adaptation of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night is a spirited musical.
When: Friday, February 14 at 7.30pm and Saturday, February 15 and Sunday, February 16 at 3.30pm and 7.30pm.

‘Tempest’

The HandleBards, an all-women British theatre group that travels with costumes, props and sets on cycles, will stage an English production of Shakespeare’s Tempest.
When: Friday, February 14 at 8pm and Saturday, February 15 and Sunday, February 16 at 3pm and 6.30pm.
Where: Jagriti Theatre, Whitefield.

‘Tughlaq’

Samkutty Pattomkary directs this Kannada production of Girish Karnad’s play. Muhammad bin Tughlaq, the fourteenth century sultan of Delhi, moves the capital of his empire from Delhi to Daulatabad. The transition doesn’t go as he had planned.
When: Saturday, February 22 at 3.30pm and 7.30pm.

‘Kusur’

Amol Palekar directs and performs this suspenseful Hindi drama written by Sandhya Gokhale. He plays retired assistant police commissioner Dandavate, who volunteers one night at the police control room. The events of the night leave him a changed man.

‘Bendakalu on Toast’

Directed by Surendranath S, Bendakalu on Toast is a Kannada production of Girish Karnad’s play, which is known as Boiled Beans on Toast in English. A slice-of-life comment on migration and class conflict, the play is set in a well-off household in Bangalore. The family members and their employees each deal with problems the city throws at them.
When: Tuesday, February 25 to Friday, February 28 at 7.30pm and Saturday, February 29 at 3.30pm and 7.30pm.
