Time and again, actors from the big screen have taken to the stage to broaden their horizons. The latest example of this is the upcoming play, Mirror Mirror, starring Minissha Lamba. The actress made her Bollywood debut with the movie Yahaan (2005) and went on to work in movies like Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. and Bachna Ae Haseeno. She was last seen in the Punjabi film, Double Di Trouble, and four years hence, the actress makes her debut on stage.
Mirror Mirror is a psychological roller coaster ride directed by Saif Hyder Hasan, who has helmed acclaimed plays such as Ek Mulaqaat, Gardish Mein Taare, and Mr. and Mrs. Murarilal. The 75-minute solo performance traces the relationship between identical twins Minal and Maanya, essayed by Lamba, who enacts 13 characters in the play. Minal leads a happy childhood until her sister Maanya is brought back home after living with her uncle for a while. This shakes up Minal’s childhood and sows within her seeds of hate towards her sister. As she grows up, Maanya’s shadow keeps looming over her. She blames everyone from her parents to her teachers and friends for preferring Maanya over her. The twist in the tale leads Minal to an important discovery that changes her destiny forever.
Mirror Mirror is produced by India’s largest theatre production company, AGP World. Needless to say, there will be no compromises on the production value of the play. Speaking about the actress’ debut on stage, Ashvin Gidwani, producer and MD of AGP World elaborated, “Minissha Lamba, in her debut performance on stage, plays the main lead and her performance will leave the audience in awe and wanting for more. This edge-of-the-seat and gritty drama will keep you guessing till the last moment.”
Mirror Mirror premieres in New Delhi on Saturday, the 8th of September at Kamani Auditorium, before making its way to Mumbai on the 1st of October at Tata Theatre, NCPA. Folks in the capital are excited to see the actress on stage, so get your tickets in advance before all the best seats are gone!
