Medium-sized Improv

Five popular comedians – Shantanu Anam, Neville Bharucha, Manik Papneja, Raunaq Rajani and Pulkit Arora – will present a “medium energy” set that aims to deliver a “medium amount of laughs”. Go see what they’re on about.

Watch a bunch of promising stand-ups through the weekend. On Saturday, lend your ears to Sonali Thakker, Vikram Poddar and Neville Bharucha. Poddar and Bharucha will return for Sunday’s performance and be joined by Rajiv Satyal.

Intellectual Blah Blah

Watch sketch comedy group Tadpatri Talkies and TodFod aka Dharmesh Parmar (pictured above), an MC with local hip-hop crew Swadesi, debate the Uniform Civil Code with humour and rap.

SMS: Secret Marathi Stand-up

Mumbai Piano Day

Listen to jazz, funk and classical tunes played on the piano at this instalment of Mumbai Piano Day, which is curated by the city’s most well-known jazz man, Louiz Banks.

Amazing Grace

Attend this concert by the Stop-Gaps Choral Ensemble. A Latin jazz mass conducted by British choral composer Bob Chilcott, famous African American songs and original tunes are on the bill.

Karaoke Nights

‘Arabian Night’: Performed Reading

In this instalment of Das Schauspiel, a series of readings of German plays organised by Studio Tamaasha and the Goethe Institut, Sapan Saran will direct a reading of the English version of Roland Schimmelpfennig’s Arabian Night. In the play, taps run dry in a building. While the caretaker investigates, the tower’s inhabitants are engaged in various ways: one woman awaits her lover, a voyeuristic resident checks out unlocked apartments, an amnesiac is unable to remember her days.

‘Bebaak Beckett’

Theatre group The Shakti Ensemble will stage a multi-lingual production of three of Beckett’s (very) short plays: Not I, Breath and Act Without Words II.

‘Jashn-e-Qalam’

Three Hindustani stories – Saadat Hasan Manto’s ‘Hatak’, Mohan Rakesh’s ‘Parmatma ka Kutta’ and Rajinder Singh Bedi’s ‘Lambi Ladki’ – will be read by Rakesh Chaturvedi, Madhurjeet Singh and Vicky Ahuja in this instalment of the long-running storytelling series.

Urdu Readings

Stories by Urdu writers Ahmed Bashir, Ashraf Sabuhi Dahelvi, Rashid Ahmed Siddiqui and Saadat Hasan Manto will be read by Asad Hussain, Aseem Hattangady and Nisha Dhar in this instalment of Studio Tamaasha’s series on Urdu storytelling.

An Impasto Knife Painting Party

Paint a canvas with yellow tulips using an impasto knife at this painting workshop conducted by Vinisha Savla. While you’re at it, sample some of Doolally’s excellent craft beers.

Hindi film director Mahesh Bhatt will conduct a 15-day acting workshop at which Bollywood aspirants can hope to pick up useful information on how to inhabit roles.

Q-Tips + Finger Painting
