This is a good week for dance enthusiasts in the city. Veteran Mumbai-based bharatanatyam dancer and choreographer Vaibhav Arekar will stage his latest show with members of his company Sankhya. A group of dancers from around Maharashtra will perform foot-thumping lavani and mujra to semi-classical music. And if you’re in the mood to dance yourself, drop into Raasta Bombay, where bachata, the dance form from the Dominican Republic, is taught every Tuesday. In this music and dance extravaganza, performers from across Maharashtra will stage lavani, mujra and item numbers as well as thumri, ghazal, and lokgeet.

2. ‘Shrimant Yogi’

Directed by bharatanatyam dancer Vaibhav Arekar, Shrimant Yogi is a portrait of the Maratha ruler Shivaji and his conflict-ridden regime. The bharatanatyam performance will have members of Arekar’s dance company Sankhya and a score by composer Hridaynath Mangeshkar.

3. Boomerang Tuesdays Bachata Nights

Bust some moves with bachata dancers and instructors Cornel Rodrigues and Rithika Pujari, who will demonstrate the dance form’s sinuous steps. Think of it as a simpler salsa. For more on the event, see here.
