Not only is it a paradise for lovers of art and craft, Surajkund is a must visit for all. Starting from the 2nd of February, the fest goes on till the 18th of the same month. But, what makes this mela an absolute delight? Find out here!

1. No Filter Needed

We, as the social media generation, are always on the look-out to update new posts on our various social media platforms. And at Surajkund you can take plenty of pictures and guess what, you don't even need to rack your brains to find that perfect filter. Surajkund Mela is all about colors and vibrant hues!

2. Cultural Diversity

The fair is described as 'Mini India' and is alive with vivid colors of Indian folk traditions and cultural heritage. This grand event will also see people from at least 20 countries. Renowned national and international folk artistes will be performing at the open air 'Chaupal' within the mela ground. That's not it, you get to taste delicious ethnic cuisines from all over the world.

Each year, a theme state is assigned and this year Uttar Pradesh will wear this crown. Last year, Jharkhand was the Theme State while Telangana wore that crown at the 30th Surajkund Mela 2016.

3. The Shopping Hub

From explicit hand-loom to ethnic jewelry, fragrances to variety of spices, it is the hub of various items from the different states of India. This fair is heaven for those who like to shop or even window shop for handicrafts from not only India but from around the world. And if you get tired from all the shopping you can drag yourself to the numerous food stalls they set up where you get energized after a scrumptious meal and are back to doing what you love the most – shopping!

4. Large Crowd but Well-Managed

Last year, more than 1.2 million footfalls were recorded at the mela, including foreigners. This year it is expected to be much more. But the large crowd should not scare you because the mela is very well organized. With ample security arrangement you can enjoy without a care in the world – because the world is right where you are. The mela is friendly for both, children and senior citizens. There will be a child-friendly space, creche for children of officials and workers, breastfeeding booth, first-aid booth, lost and found counter and a stall for children with special needs.

5. Performances

If you get tired from all the shopping and your stomach is full with all the delicious food that you just had, you can sit back, relax and watch some mind-blowing performances. There will be a vibrant show by dancers from Uttar Pradesh, the popular Chand Nizami Brothers known for their qawwalis, and many such mesmerizing performances you would absolutely love.
