Created by the National Award winning Art Director Nitin Chandrakant Desai, ND’s Film World has been one of the most popular shooting locations for Bollywood movies and TV shows. Spread over 52 acres, ND’s studio has been there for 14 years now and it has become bigger every day. The good news is that this beautiful world of art, which was only used for shoots, is now open for movie lovers to visit. You can go there and visit the sets where your favorite stars have shot for your favorite movies. We also went there and spent a day to tell you guys if it is worth going there – and the answer is definitely yes.
Nitin Desai’s best work has been in period movies. He has won four national awards and all four of them are for period movies. You can see some of his best work here in the studio. The humongous and exquisite sets of Jodhaa Akbar and Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo reside there for you check out. The sheesh mahal (mirror palace) from PRDP is still there and is a mesmerizing site. There’s a town square, a fashion street, a lakeside, a rural village, temples, a bhoot bangla, hotels, and most importantly a khaau galli with yummy food. These sets have been a part of blockbuster movies like Kick, Wanted, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Sanju, and many more.
Your day at the studio starts right from the gates where the stalwarts of Indian film industry have been sculpted as the walls of this studio. Inside there are box-offices from where you can collect your tickets, coupons, etc. and embark on this filmy journey of a filmy day. From the giant elephant sculptures to camels, dinosaurs, and real horses, this place has everything to enthrall the kids.
In the very beginning, the right wall shows you the evolution of cinema through hundreds of movie posters painted on the wall. A golf cart is arranged to take you to different sets. These sets have different props for you to become the movie characters yourself and make most of your filmy day. The studio is extra special for Salman fans as many of his movies are shot here. He also has a dedicated bungalow for him to stay.
After the tour that will take 60 to 90 minutes of your time, you head to the Khau Galli or the buffet hall because they have a 120-minute musical show at 2:30 pm and you wouldn’t want to leave the premises for anything once the show starts. The theme of the show keeps changing but the entertainment quotient remains the same.
The musical show has some amazing performers dancing, acting, and entertaining you. You’ll see voice modulation acts, singing acts, dance performances, storytelling, and a Bulbul Pandey making you sway to his moves. There’s not a second that you won’t feel entertained. After the show, the audience is called on the stage for a dance and the entire auditorium dances like a family. Post the show you head for a hi-tea.
You must ask how this place makes you fulfill your filmy dreams, right? Well, this studio is now open for wedding and events. So you can get married in the very set Akbar wooed Jodha and stay at the same very cottages they stayed while shooting for the movie.
