There’s a ton of things to do in Bangalore this weekend, from attending a Bolly gig by Guru Randhawa and a documentary on kalaripayattu to listening to Mirza Ghalib’s ghazals and meeting British superstar chef Marco Pierre White.


Half Baked Chutkule

Pay some attention to Mumbai-based comic and member of comedy collective East India Comedy Sapan Varma, who will test out work-in-progress jokes.

Meri Maa Ki

Bangalore-based professional photographer and stand-up comic Punya Arora mines the volatile relationship between mothers and daughters for laughs in her solo show.

Shankar Chugani

Coonoor-bred, Bangalore-based comic Shankar Chugani, who was a contestant on last year’s comedy reality show ‘Comicstaan’, will perform a set based on his life experiences. Expect a lot of gags on the trials of being a short guy.
When: Sunday, June 2 at 5pm.

Guru Randhawa

Popular pop and playback singer Guru Randhawa will perform some of his top hits at the Bangalore leg of his India tour.
When: Saturday, June 1 at 7pm.
Where: Phoenix Marketcity, Mahadevpura, Whitefield Road.

Carnatic 2.0 Reloaded

Carnatic and electro-classical music and dance come together in this performance featuring dancers Vijay Baskar, Eva Rawat and Irfan Sheriff, Mahesh Raghavan on iPad and vocals, Sharanya Srinivas on vocals, Shravan Sridhar on violin and Akshay Anantapadmanabhan on percussion.
When: Sunday, June 2 at 6.30pm.

Grey Shack

Chennai-based rock band Grey Shack, which describes its current sound as a meeting of 1970s rock and ’90s grunge, is back after a hiatus of a year with a new front man and fresh music.

‘Mera Salaam Kahiyo’

Listen to the lilting Urdu poetry and ghazals of eighteenth century writer Mirza Ghalib. Performer Kafeel Jafri will recite poetry, Snehdeep Singh will sing ghazals and Sarvotham HJ will accompany the artists on percussion.
When: Saturday, June 1 at 6.30pm.

‘The Pathinayiram’

The Pathinayiram (Ten Thousand) is a 25-minute documentary in English and Malayalam by Faraway Collective, a group of artists, on kalaripayattu, the martial art from Kerala. The film follows Nikhil, a practitioner who teaches at Kalarigram in Auroville.
When: Saturday, June 1 at 7.30pm.

‘Boiled Beans On Toast’

Director Prakash Belawadi’s English version of Girish Karnad’s original Kannada drama is set in the world of an ordinary Bangalore family. There’s the bored housewife who has taken to helping cancer patients, there’s a mother-in-law with a gambling problem, an annoying IT guy shows up, the trusted family maid is under suspicion of stealing stuff and so on. Their interactions throw up conflicts that every city-dweller will surely recognise.
When: Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2 at 7pm.

British chef Marco Pierre White is the star of the fourth season of culinary festival World On A Plate. Attend masterclasses and fine dining events and watch chefs being judged on their creations at this two-day event.

VIP Zone
A VIP Zone ticket will grant you unlimited access to the event and let you attend one of four sessions over the weekend. Events include masterclasses, restaurant pop-ups, interactions with participating chefs and memorabilia signing.
