Everything You Need To Know About American Made

Tom Cruise is back with one of the most exciting films of the year. His previous release, The Mummy, was a box office hit, but didn't do so well with the critics. American Made is here to kickstart Cruise's career once again.

Director: Doug Liman

Cast: Tom Cruise, Domnhall Gleeson, Sarah Wright, Jesse Plemons

Release Date: 29 September

This is the first movie that's not science-fiction or part of a franchise that Tom Cruise has done in years. It's a crime biography but it still seems to have the authentic Cruise vibe.

Much like one of his most famous films, Top Gun, Cruise plays a pilot here. As Barry Seal, he flies for a commercial airline TWA, when he's approached by the CIA to help some intelligence operations in Central America. Things only get more adventurous from there – he gets involved in drug smuggling for the Medellin Cartel (the ones made famous from Netflix's hit show, Narcos), and eventually with the Drug Enforcement Agency, DEA.

The production for American Made has been very eventful. The makers turned the small town of Georgia into Mena – a town Barry Seal practically built from scratch. Most of the stunts have been done by Cruise himself, including the flight sequences. There has also been a tragic death of a stuntman on the sets.

His supporting cast member, Domnhall Gleeson has previously been the lead in Ex Machina and also played Bill Weasley in the Harry Potter series. Starring opposite Cruise is Sarah Wright, who has played small characters in many movies and shows. Another notable supporting cast member is Jesse Plemons, who has appeared in television series like Fargo and Breaking Bad. This is the second collaboration between director Doug Liman and Tom Cruise. They have previously worked together on the underappreciated Edge of Tomorrow

American Made has already released in many countries worldwide and got glowing reviews. We also have an early review, courtesy of the BookMyShow Indonesia blog that you can read here. And if you haven't seen the American Made trailer already, watch it here:
