Everything You Need To Know About Geostorm

Cast: Gerard Butler, Abbie Cornish, Alexandra Lara, Jim Sturgess, Ed Harris, Andy Garcia, Katheryn Winnick, Jeremy Ray Taylor

Director: Dean Devlin and Danny Cannon

Writer: Dean Devlin

Movies like San Andreas, 2012 and The Day After Tomorrow have taught us that our world is ending because of natural calamities. Along the same lines, comes Geostorm, written and directed by Dean Devlin, who is known for producing movies like Independence Day and Godzilla. But it isn't just about natural disasters taking over the world. There is a bit of space adventure mingled with a plot to assassinate the president. Gerard Butler, who has done movies like Olympus Has Fallen, has managed to carve a niche as an action hero and we see him doing just that in the trailer of this movie. Disaster movies have always cashed in at the box office. Our primal fear is of the world ending and disaster movies show the most plausible way of that happening.

The movie was initially produced by Skydance Productions before Warner Brothers took over. Dean Devlin is on the production board as well. The teaser of the movie showed the city of Mumbai being destroyed by a group of tornadoes and more disasters like that followed in the trailer as well. Gerard Butler plays a satellite designer and the only one person who can save the day. The movie production itself has been the place for many disasters. Originally meant to release in January, the movie went through 15 million worth of re-shoots where the plot was tweaked a little and a new director Danny Cannon was brought on board. The movie also stars Abbie Cornish (Bright Star, Sucker Punch), Alexandra Lara (The Reader), Jim Sturgess (Across the Universe, Cloud Atlas), and Ed Harris (Westworld) in prominent roles.

The movie doesn't boast of being original and yet we haven't seen natural disasters induced by satellites before. They are also going worldwide when it comes to the disasters and showing cities in Japan and India being destroyed instead of just predominantly depicting USA. Also, the scenes featuring NASA were actually filmed in the NASA New Orleans office.
