Everything You Need To Know About Padmavati

Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Aditi Rao Hydari

Director: Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Background & Story

Sanjay Leela Bhansali claimed he had three dream projects he wanted to make in his life. Well, he made two of them – Black and Bajirao Mastani, and is currently filming the third one – Padmavati. If some fringe elements had their way, they would like the name of the movie to be changed but that request has been declined. After the attack on the sets in Jaipur, though, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has promised that was no dream sequences or romantic scenes between the lead characters – Rani Padmini and Alauddin Khilji – that was to be filmed in the first place. This is sad news for fans of Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh who play the two characters in the film, as they won’t get to see them as a couple in the movie. In fact, the actress might share some romantic moments with Shahid Kapoor, who plays the role of Padmini's husband, Rawal Ratan Singh.

Padmavati was initially an opera that Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed and was showcased to packed houses in Paris. After the positive response to the opera, he decided to turn it into a feature film. While he was quick to sign his favorites – Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, there was a lot of casting problems for the third character. Most actors didn't want to play the second fiddle and Padukone, too, wanted to share screen space with a famous name. So, Vicky Kaushal, who was initially going to play the part, was dropped from the project. After Shahid Kapoor gave his nod to the film, Aditi Rao Hydari was the next actor to join the Padmavati cast.

Padmavati

The release date of Padmavati is November 17 this year. According to initial plans, Padmavati was supposed to hit theatres on Christmas but to avoid a clash with Tiger Zinda Hai, the makers of Padmavati changed the release date of their movie. We don’t blame them as no one would want to clash with a Salman Khan film that also stars Katrina Kaif and is directed by the man behind Sultan (Ali Abbas Zafar).

Since the film is releasing in November, the Padmavati trailer should be out by late August. It will most likely be attached to Imtiaz Ali’s film, tentatively titled The Ring, which releases around Independence Day, and stars Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma. The Ring is a biggie and SLB would not miss the opportunity of attaching the Padmavati trailer to it. You can also expect Bhansali to hold a grand event for the trailer launch as he did for his last two movies, Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela and Bajirao Mastani.
