Exodus: Gods and Kings

I still remember the shock and awe of Cecil B. DeMille's The Ten Commandments. I saw it in a theater when I was very young but the pomp, pageantry, chariots and especially the parting of the Red Sea stayed imprinted on my mind. I thought that Ridley Scott, with 200 million dollars, 3D, 1300 special effect shots and an Oscar-winning actor Christian Bale as Moses, might top DeMille.  Exodus: Gods and Kings has scale and majesty but it's far less pleasurable. Scott's interpretation is grim, literally grey and far too long.
